Cooperation agreement between RISE and the Swedish Space Agency in space data

18 December 2020, 11:47

The need to analyze data from space is great. This applies to everything from climate impact and tomorrow's weather forecast to forestry. The research institute RISE and the Swedish Space Agency have now signed a collaboration agreement for long-term and strategic collaboration. The collaboration takes place within the framework of the national space data lab with the aim of increasing the use of space data to develop society and industry.

RISE is involved in many projects in these areas and also runs the internationally leading research data center ICE. The data center, which is based in Luleå in northern Sweden, contributes to enabling projects with a great need for computing power and a need to handle large amounts of data.

The collaboration will further develop the Swedish Space Data Lab. The Space Data Lab, which was initiated in 2019 in a Vinnova-funded project, constitutes a national knowledge and data hub for Swedish authorities' work with space data and for the development of AI and ML-based analysis of data generated in space systems. The goal is to jointly further develop the innovation platform with data owners and other stakeholders, including data, technology and methodology.
