Technology Innovations in Edge Infrastructure: from Green Gas to Combined Heat and Compute

Jon Summers, the scientific lead in data centres at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, will be travelling to Oslo for the Datacloud Nordics 21-22 September.
The synopsis of his talk:
Solutions for edge infrastructure that are quiet and that facilitates integration into urban areas has led to the design, construction, and operation of a proof-of-concept by the team at RISE that includes on-site power production for a containerised edge data centre. The urban integration includes heat from the compute being combined with the heat from the on-site power production that is made available to use in an existing high-temperature district heating network in Lulea, Sweden.
The demonstrator is funded by the Wedistrict project (H2020 grant agreement 857801) and employs immersion cooling of the compute servers and solid oxide fuel cells operating from locally produced biogas that both keep the noise levels down and offer the highest level of cooling and power efficiency for sustainable operation. This presentation will show the design, what has been constructed and some operational results.
