Tor Björn Minde participated in a DCD partners panel: How is physical infrastructure responding at the far edge?

The team of Jim Simonelli from Schneider Electric, Ralf Hagen from Nestle and Tor Björn Minde from RISE talked with George Rocket at DCD about the opportunity of infrastructure at the far edge. The applications, platforms and hardware needed at the far edge defined as the network far edge or factory close edge, as Ralf put it, were discussed.
The development at the far edge has accelerated quicker than analysts expected over the past year, with street-side nodes, factory floor compute and multi-access edge compute infrastructure typifying this. Hosting the enterprise and IoT edge for a multitude of use cases requires rapid deployment of dispersed compute, but without the enabling technologies, little progress can be made.
This panel of experts explained the critical environment requirements at the far edge, including how to manage and secure such a widely distributed and integrated environment, with an as-of-yet complete ecosystem. It was a session in the program Building the Edge | Europe.
