Systemic transformation

The climate crisis, digitalisation and demographic shifts are creating pressure for change that goes deeper than ordinary improvement measures. Transformation is about entire systems being transformed – like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, not just a caterpillar with wings. For organisations, cities and authorities, this means that established working methods and structures need to be fundamentally re-evaluated. The challenge is to navigate complexity where technical, social and economic dimensions are intertwined.

RISE supports actors who want to build their own capacity to lead system change. Foresight work highlights uncertainties and possible futures, while transformation partnerships provide tools for co-creation and strategic action. Scientifically based frameworks – from innovation systems to transition management – are combined with practical processes such as policy labs and transition labs. The work is based on an inclusive perspective where more voices contribute to solutions that work for society as a whole.
