Great discussions at our Hydrogen for Clean Heat & Power session, showing how hydrogen is already powering real facilities—from data centres to aluminium plants and industrial cogeneration units.
Moderated by our project officer Luca F., who gave an overview of the project portfolio the session highlighted the growing maturity and diversity of hydrogen technologies across Europe.
We heard key insights from four project funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership driving this transformation:
Anders Ødegård (CLEANER) – Developing a >100 kW PEM fuel-cell CHP system running on industrial-grade hydrogen, supporting applications at Schiphol Airport and the Ferrexpo Black Sea port.
Alessandro Parente (H2AL) – Advancing hydrogen turbine burners for high-temperature aluminium production, now being deployed at the 2A aluminium plant.
Parvathi Maya Thampi (E2P2) – Demonstrating SOFC systems for clean, resilient power in data centres (Equinix Milan), with strong potential to scale to MW-level needs.
Ertan Yilmaz (HyCoFlex Project) – Developing hydrogen-ready cogeneration for multi-MW gas turbines, moving toward a 100% H₂ demo at a Smurfit paper production site.
Together, these projects show that hydrogen for heat and power is no longer experimental — it’s entering real industrial operations and scaling across sectors from manufacturing to digital infrastructure.
