RISE and Telia strengthen their collaboration with a focus on 5G

RISE and Telia Sweden have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement marks the continued joint strategic innovation cooperation. The intention is to shorten the lead time from research and innovation to commercialization.
- RISE's mission is to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish industry, partly by helping to guide innovations all the way from idea to industrial scale. We already have a large and successful collaboration with Telia in for example an EU project regarding 5G and digital infrastructure. This agreement means that we now can put even more effort into the work, says Malin Frenning, CEO of RISE.
- We have already collaborated with RISE in several different innovation projects - in the transport sector and the mining industry, among others. We are now strengthening our collaboration and this will help us to accelerate the investment in 5G for industry and society with the best of both worlds. RISE has cutting-edge expertise in several different areas that are crucial for turning 5G's opportunities into reality - and they have extensive experience of running large-scale digitization projects. This in turn requires a robust and secure 5G-based digital infrastructure. We can offer this through our innovation program NorthStar, which we run with Ericsson," says Anders Olsson, CEO of Telia Sweden.
The collaboration between RISE and Telia will initially focus on innovation and test beds for 5G, where Telia is conducting several major development projects and RISE has cutting-edge expertise and a world-leading research infrastructure with the ICE Data Center in Luleå.
- Telia and RISE will offer a joint digital infrastructure for test beds in Sweden to strengthen the national initiative for 5G and Edge computing applications. With this we also take the leadership in Europe, says Hanifeh Khayyeri, VP Computer Science at Digital Systems RISE.
