European 1MW rack is on the way in the H-DINI project

11 December 2025, 16:36

And it represents a major step forward in what’s achievable in high-density compute.

Two weeks ago we kicked off one of the most ambitious projects: the development and demonstration of a 1MW high-density rack PoC in Luleå, in the north of Sweden.

Yes — 1 megawatt from a single rack.

To put it in perspective, today’s most powerful AI rack consumes ~ 120kW (GB300 NVL72). We’re targeting almost 10× that.

The challenge?
AI workloads keep demanding more and more power, and new solutions need to be implemented to achieve the forecasted power demand in a sustainable way. Not only power distribution becomes challenging. Keeping it cool is the main bottleneck. And at such extreme densities, heat fluxes from GPUs/CPUs reach levels that current systems simply can’t handle it in a sustainable and practical way.

And that’s why a group of exceptional European companies has decided to tackle this problem and prove it’s possible to meet performance, innovation and sustainability, all at once.

The project is structured around five areas, all equally critical:
• Power distribution
• Node design
• Server cooling
• Coolant distribution
• Heat reuse

Partners in the project are Castrol, ABB, Ericsson, Chalmers, LTU, ENOC, APR Tech, Alfa Laval, Fläkt group, Smart High Tech, Hitachi Energy, Grundfos, Perstorp and RISE.

We’re ready to show what liquid cooling can achieve at extreme densities!
