Our 5/6G Edge project co-funded by ICT Sweden is started

The purpose of the project is to develop RISE research and innovation competence in edge computing for land and space and build contacts and an ecosystem for edge in Sweden and build international contacts. The project will result in the national initiative for industry eco-system, software and hardware platforms and developer offerings for edge applications at RISE ICE Datacenter becoming stronger and ultimately world-leading.
The project is connected to the work RISE is doing to make a national network of edge nodes available for developers of new applications using edge compute. A prototype of a small edge node (1/2 rack) is already built and experiments are ongoing. Since before an 5G edge datacenter and micro grid testbed is available as well for the edge development.
The unique thing that 5G can offer in addition to higher bit rates, etc. is lower delay that opens up for something completely new that has not been possible before. The delay-sensitive parts of the data processing are run in the distributed node. Examples are cashing, aggregation, inference, , image rendering, control, filtering, detection, etc. while storage, prediction, model training, web / app rendering, etc. are done in the central data center.
