ESPP söker presentatörer till webinar med tema "soil phosphorus and crop productivity"

15 februari 2021, 10:39

“Legacy Phosphorus” in soil and crop productivity:
- can accumulated soil phosphorus be “drawn down” without reducing crop yield?
- does soil-stored phosphorus result in increased P-losses to surface waters?

ESPP webinar:
Do we need high soil P to maintain crop productivity?
To what extent can legacy P be drawn down?

Provisional title. Proposed outline content, not confirmed to date.

  • Soil P status criteria and the concept of filling up soil P buffering capacity to “breakpoint” (critical P level) before P becomes available for plants
  • Can you reduce soil P but maintain crop productivity (see e.g. AHDB report March 2017 “Cost-effective phosphorus management on UK arable farms”)
  • The concept of legacy P in grassland  - Ireland ?
  • Overview of soil phosphorus status across Europe and worldwide
  • Experience of P-fertiliser use in France following the 2008 price peak
  • Drawing down legacy P in Flanders
  • Precision fertilisation and soil P stock management – fertilisers industry?
  • To what extend does reducing “Legacy P” reduce P losses to surface waters?
