Digitalization - Attractive workplace in industry

Future-proof digitization with a human centered strategy

Does your company have a challenge in providing your skills? Do you want to attract the right staff to create innovation and productivity? Then this is the course for you.

Digitalisation with man in focus highlights research and industry examples where new technology is combined with knowledge of man. An attractive industrial workplace is created by shaping a culture that promotes health and creativity as well as gender equality and diversity. Today, there are major challenges linked to digitalisation and sustainability. One of these challenges is skills development. FAIRCHAIN

FAIRCHAIN
FAIRCHAIN LOGO

FAIRCHAIN seeks to enable small and mid-size farmers and food producers to scale up and expand production of nutritious food through competitive intermediate value chains at the local and regional levels. In Sweden, we focus on the value chain around forest berries.

RISE leads the Swedish case study on wild forrest berries. RISE is also responsible for the work on the sustainability evaluations of all case studies in the project.

FAIRCHAIN - Innovative technological, organizational, and social solutions for FAIRer dairy and fruit and vegetable value CHAINs - is a four-year EU-funded project with 22 partners from 8 different countries. The project started in November 2020 and ended in december 2024.

To address the shortcomings of long and short food value chains while capitalising on their advantages, FAIRCHAIN will focus on the development of intermediate food value chains. In FAIRCHAIN, the benefits of the long effective value chains are combined with the benefits of the short local value chains.

FAIRCHAIN will pilot, test, and demonstrate technological, social and/or organizational innovations with the potential to bridge existing gaps though 6 intermediate value chains:

  • Development of the wild berry business to boost local economy and social cohesion by using digital technology to facilitate berry picking and develop local business models (Sweden).
  • Conception of a packaging machine for small and mid-size actors for small and medium-sized businesses for packaging fruit preparations / juices (Belgium).
  • Production and distribution of dairy drinks based on co-products of cheese manufacturing (France).
  • Improvement of traceability and information sharing in dairy production (Greece).
  • Co-product valorisation and generation of additional added value for SMEs and regional stakeholders (Switzerland).
  • Establishment of the Food Innovation Incubator (Austira)

Central to the project is that all stakeholders in the value chain participate in workshops based on a common methodology for the project. In Sweden, we work with stakeholders from different parts of the forest berries value chain. In this way, we create a common understanding of different interests that will form the basis for common goals and strategies to bring about real changes.

For the forest berries' value chain, research is underway on how to make it easier to find berries in the forest. SLU in Umeå is collaborating with RISE in this research, which will form the basis for the innovative app we aim to develop. RISE is also responsible for the work on the sustainability evaluations of all case studies in the project.

Patterns for architecture and business model for mobility SoS

MAUS

Tomorrow's mobility and transport system will require increased collaboration between independent actors. MAUS will develop patterns and principles for how to design such systems of systems(SoS) to increase transport efficiency and minimize unwanted side effects.

Koordinator
Active
Mobility Mobility services
2020-2022
SEK 4 000 000
Division: Division Digital Systems and Societal Transformation

Urban mobility and transportation are being transformed rapidly. New services and modes of transportation appear. However, there is a lack in coordination and collaboration between different actors. This leads to inefficiencies in the transport system and to increased environmental impacts as well as congestion.

Systems of systems are a way of facilitating such collaboration. Given the transport needs, available transport capabilities, and the current traffic situation, there is a need to create a constellation of independent systems that solve the transport needs while fulfilling all the constraints.

MAUS develops patterns and principles for the design of such system of systems solutions, laying the foundation for commercial actors to develop products. MAUS will reach TRL 4 at the end of the project.

The project will move beyond centralized systems of systems and study how the transition to decentralized SoS can be facilitated.

Future-proof your business and strengthen your competitiveness

Future-proof your business

To meet the 1.5 °C goal of the Paris Agreement, the world is facing a major transition. Companies and organisations will need to adjust and revise their strategies, plans and business models in order to remain competitive.

With a focus on a sustainable future, RISE’s experts analyse your existing strategies, plans or business models from both a technical perspective and a systems perspective. We identify opportunities as well as risks in your business and suggest new projects, new technologies or new collaborative partners in order to advance your business.

Committing to the forthcoming transition raises questions: What technology should we invest in? Who are our new collaborative partners? What skills are needed? What effect will new regulations have? How do we get started? RISE can help you to determine the way forward, shed light on the unknown, and future-proof your business.

With a focus on a sustainable future and your existing strategies, plans or business models as the starting point, our experts carry out analyses from both a technical perspective and from a systems perspective and identify opportunities and risks in your business. You choose which areas or issues should be prioritised in the analysis and the basis of the analysis – from an existing annual and sustainability report to separate workshops focusing on your priorities.

What do I get?

A typical analysis project as described above begins with a review of the areas you have selected for analysis. This is usually followed by a few workshops, culminating in SWOT analyses for each of the selected areas. The results are presented as a PPT report and in one or more seminars, which will serve as the starting point for the implementation of proposed measures in your organisation.

Each analysis project is unique and is based on your conditions and challenges. Depending on your business and the level of transition required, RISE will select relevant experts with solid experience in facilitating and implementing analysis projects according to a proven approach.

Independent expertise

RISE is an independent state research institute and has technology experts in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, electrification, hydrogen and CCS, as well as experts in areas with a system perspective such as governance, innovation management, circular transition, and upskilling and reskilling. We give you an impartial second opinion and can suggest new projects, new technologies or new collaborative partners in order to advance your business.

With a broad base in research and innovation, a focus on application, and a long-term perspective, we can help you take advantage of the opportunities presented by the transition, increase your in-house expertise, and ensure that your business model and operations are profitable and competitive in the future.

ConnectMe - prototyping safe spaces to talk

ConnectMe

The media is an important part of the democratic system, in which the media, government and citizens have roles to play. The role of journalism in informing, reviewing and offering forums for debate is central to this and to the societal challenge that the project focuses on.

Projektledare
Completed
Digitalisation
Region Norrbotten Region Stockholm

Division: Division Digital Systems and Societal Transformation

Purpose and goal

The project focused on the societal challenge with a growing polarization in the public discourse. Sweden's democracy model is based on citizen participation, where the media play an important role as a place for dialogue. With a change in media use, however, there is a need to explore new methods and digital tools for this. The goal of the project was to create a solution that can make it easier for people to meet in a safe and inclusive way. In the project, we explored e.g. how to use newspaper content constructively, in order to attract even those who do not usually participate.

Results

The project developed and suggest methods for working with constructive journalism and reader engagement, designed user scenarios and concept ideas, as well as an early prototype of a digital tool tested with user groups. The result serve as a basis for further development in a stage 3 project where the implementation of a chosen solution is further developed and tested in a real environment.

Project process

RISE, Mitt i Direkt AB, Norr Media AB and Södertörn University jointly carry out a design and prototyping process where constructive journalism and digital tools are tested together with user groups in a lab environment. Content in Mitt i Direkt AB's newspaper will be linked to the innovation process in the project.
