How to collaborate with RISE
RISE collaborates with industry, academia, and the public sector in a variety of ways. If you need to solve a specific problem, want to develop knowledge together with others or ensure that products and processes meet requirements, you will find a suitable form of collaboration.
Tailor-made research assignments
Sometimes, you need access to specific expertise or equipment to overcome a business challenge. This could involve technical advice, problem solving, development projects, analyses or investigations, for example. With a tailor-made assignment, RISE experts will work directly with you, addressing your specific questions and needs. You gain access to the right expertise at the right time, and you retain ownership of the results.
Packaged services
Products, services and processes often need to be verified against requirements set by the relevant authorities, customers or standards bodies. RISE offers testing, certification and calibration services to help you meet these requirements and demonstrate compliance. These services are performed independently and are accredited, providing credibility and facilitating market access.
Research and innovation projects
Participating in joint research and innovation projects enables you to develop new knowledge alongside RISE, other companies and academic institutions. As the projects are often partly funded by public funds, this provides an opportunity to participate in pioneering research at a reduced cost. You will also gain access to networks, research results and expertise that will strengthen your long-term innovation capacity. The rights to results and intellectual property are regulated in project agreements, and are usually distributed according to the respective parties' contributions and funding.
Public sector and procurement
RISE supports municipalities, regions and authorities through various collaboration models, ranging from publicly funded research and innovation projects to bilateral development assignments and direct consultancy. As a neutral research organisation, RISE distinguishes itself from traditional consulting firms by offering applied research that strengthens innovation and renewal in public sector activities.
According to the LOU, research and development services are only subject to procurement if the results are exclusively for the contracting authority and the authority pays for the service in full. In the case of projects with shared benefits or co-financing, however, the assignment falls outside the scope of the Public Procurement Act. This means that public bodies can collaborate with RISE through direct assignments or joint projects, bypassing the requirement for competitive tendering — in line with EU directives' aim of promoting research and development.

In addition to technical expertise and in-depth domain knowledge, RISE has the expertise to support research projects throughout the process, from planning and application to patenting ideas and disseminating research results.

The Grants Office at RISE supports researchers and project managers with planning research projects, preparing applications and budgets, and understanding the rules and conditions of calls for proposals. The office also helps match project ideas with calls for proposals from research funding bodies, with the ultimate goal of increasing the likelihood of project ideas becoming a reality.

For commercial projects, you, the customer, own any inventions arising from the project. For joint research projects, the rights are regulated by the project agreement. RISE has extensive experience of IP issues and has been involved in the entire process from idea to patent in collaboration with leading companies. The terms and conditions are always clear from the outset, so all parties know what to expect.
