The RISE story
In 2026, RISE will celebrate its 10th anniversary as Sweden’s leading research institute and the driving force behind the nation’s innovation and industry.
We can look back on a decade of radical change and unprecedented technological development. At the heart of it all has been RISE, testing vaccines, electrifying industries, strengthening societal resilience, and bringing Swedish innovations from the laboratory to market.
It is not the anniversary itself that we are celebrating. It is the results.
On 1 April 2016, Innventia, SP and Swedish ICT merge to form RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The newly formed institute has a clear mandate from the government: as Sweden’s research institute and innovation partner, it must help develop technologies, products, services and processes that contribute to a sustainable society and a competitive business sector. With its roots deeply embedded in Swedish industrial history, the institute is well placed to fulfil this mandate.
Since 2016, the expertise of several institutes has been brought together under the RISE umbrella, including organisations such as MoRE, SSPA and parts of Swerea. RISE has become Sweden’s research institute. Thanks to our expertise, perspectives and experience spanning countless fields and industries, we are well placed to tackle complex issues that cut across multiple sectors and require integrated solutions.
