Successful introductory course on quality by design and design of experiment

02 November 2020, 18:03

On October 22th, 18 participants from academia and industry attended our introductory course on quality by design and design of experiment, held by William Mackintosh at RISE.

At the beginning of the course, the principles of quality by design were presented, in particular how to adapt to a risk-based approach during development, and how to use tools, for example, the use of design of experiment in the implementation of quality by design.

The design of experiment course covered a comparison of the design of experiment and one-variable-at-a-time approaches to demonstrate a key principle of the method – running experiments at a combination of factor levels rather than manipulating factors independently. An example of setting up a 3-factor study was provided, and the analysis (multiple linear regression) was demonstrated and explained step-by-step using a 2-factor study as an example. How design of experiment is applied within formulation was described, and a number of formulation-specific designs were named and described.

Thank you to all that attended enthusiastically, and for the good discussion during the course and positive feedback after the course.
