Greetings from the Centre Director

Spring has arrived and we are looking forward to brighter times. Within NextBioForm, we have an exciting spring ahead of us with several dissertations and publications. The first disseration was held in February when Shuai Bai Palmkron successfully defended his thesis "Enhancing the stability of probiotics: Freeze-drying and encapsulation".
During the spring, new projects have been started with a focus on AF4 as a technology for the analysis of different types of nanoparticles and on solid-phase NMR for the study of water in dry formulations. Both projects build on other ongoing projects within the centre and will provide in-depth knowledge. We will hear more about the developments later in the year.
We arrange a workshop on continuous manufacturing of biological pharmaceutical products in collaboration with the centre AdBIOPRO. Here we will discuss technical, regulatory and cultural aspects of continuous manufacturing from production of protein to fully formulated and packaged product. Is this the future of sustainable, safe and cost-effective biologics? The answers are not given here, but we are starting to raise the question.
