Nisha Tyagi successfully defended her licentiate thesis

27 September 2023, 10:25

On Tuesday, September 5th, Nisha Tyagi successfully defended her licentiate thesis titled "Live Biotherapeutics : importance of formulation and lyophilization parametersand an example of a clinical application" at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. On behalf of NextBioForms, we would like to extend our congratulations. We are proud of her dedication and hard work throughout these years!

Nisha with her supervisors. Lovisa Ringstad, CMC Lead Ilya Pharma, Stefan Roos, professor SLU, Nisha Tyagi, Dr Hava Lofton Tomenius, Ilya Pharma.

Congratulations on your successful defense! Could you please share some details about the focus of your research?

“Thank you so much! In pharmaceutical industries one of the main challenges is to develop reproducible, bioactive, and stable biologics. Therefore, our research was focused on understanding the impact of formulation and freeze-drying process on physicochemical and biological parameters of freeze-dried L. reuteri R2LC.”

In what ways has your affiliation with NextBioForm contributed to both you and your research?

"NextBioForm is a great platform combining both academia and industrial professionals. I have attended the meetings organized by NextBioForm during the span of my PhD which provided me an excellent opportunity to collaborate with researchers – Anna Fureby, Zandra Gidlöf, Daniel Osanloo and Elizabeth Hörlin – having different expertise. Besides, I also got help with the additional capabilities (SEM and DSC instruments) required to carry out this research work successfully.”

What was your experience like during the defense?

“It was indeed a great experience to be able to present my research in front of examining committee and other fellow researchers. I was enlightened by the very insightful questions, during my defense. I consider this discussion to be a very important part of the PhD training, to be able to present my research in front of a wider audience and discuss questions reflecting different aspects of the thesis.”

What do you intend to do next?

“I am looking forward to continuing my PhD and unraveling the remaining key questions in my research.”
