MicroDri starts a collaboration with SCA and Holmen

13 February 2023, 12:20

The forest industry is in constant development and several initiatives are being taken to make it as sustainable as possible. One such initiative came in 2019 when SAAB wanted to investigate how to create a civilian application of microwave technology and contacted the business incubator LEAD. This resulted in the company MicroDri, which has now started an exciting collaboration with Holmen and SCA.

During the 2022 edition of the Forest Business Accelerator program (FBA), MicroDri participated, a startup from Linköping that uses microwave technology to electrify and enable increased sustainability in drying and heating processes for the sawmill industry. This microwave-based solution makes the drying process more efficient and gives the sawmills increased flexibility at the same time as the value of the timber is increased.

- Our participation in FBA has given us access to new networks and enabled close collaborations with the program's partners RISE, SCA, IBM. It has provided a great opportunity for faster development and new synergy effects, says Victor Borén, co-founder and CEO at MicroDri.

In February, this round of FBA ends, but MicroDri continues its cooperation with the parties. Namely, the company has started an exciting collaboration with SCA and Holmen where they jointly developed a concept for an industrial pilot to further verify and test MicroDris' innovation on a larger scale.

- The fact that MicroDri can now take its innovation further with two large companies from our network is very fun to see. It is exactly this type of synergy we are looking for within FBA, says Leif Lyckebäck, Innovation, and Process Manager RISE.

MicroDri has had an eventful year. The company has had the opportunity to pitch its innovation at various events, went to San Fransisco together with BizMaker to learn about the American market, and gained access to various skills and networks.

- The guidance and support we received from Leif Lyckebäck at RISE to be able to find the right financing opportunities for our innovation has been a big help. When you participate in the Forest Business Accelerator, you get direct access to different types of skills, which is very helpful in being able to take your innovation further, says Victor Borén.
