Testing the Future of Emergency Communications – EMC plays a key role

28 July 2025, 13:07

Critical public safety communication is entering a new era. As the current Rakel system is replaced by the 5G-based Swen (Swedish Emergency Network), maximum security and reliability are required. This is where EMC plays a vital role.

The new communication system enables voice transmission and the sharing of data, video, and real-time drone footage – all functions that place high demands on electromagnetic compatibility. Equipment used in emergency services must operate without interference, even in complex electromagnetic environments.

At RISE’s EMC facility, advanced testing environments are available to evaluate all new communication equipment at the component level, ensuring compliance with both national and international standards. This includes mobile terminals, sensors, radio transmitters and vehicle electronics.

EMC and wireless testing are also key to ensuring device interoperability from different manufacturers. By simulating MSB’s future network, RISE can verify that the technology performs as intended – before being put into live operation.
