Certification of wooden houses and wooden building components

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Certification rule CR065 - Certified house production Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

As a third party RISE performes inspection of design and manufacturing to verify the quality at factory built wooden houses. For more information regarding Säker Vatten inspection, se below.

Purpose/Benefit:

The purpose with certification is that through an initial audit and follow-up inspections answer to the inspections that the developer and the inspection manager are responsible of, according to the Planning and Building Act (PBL), chapter 10, 5-8 §§. The certification has its origin in the technical properties in PBL, chapter 8, 4-5 §§ and in 18-21 §§ concerning suitability of building products and releasing of building products to the market.

The certification rule covers wooden houses and wooden house components that are manufactured in the factory.

Inspection plan according to the Plan and Building Act

Did you know that the inspection plan according to PBL must also include what is carried out in the factory? In practice, this can be difficult to solve as the factories already have established routines and quality systems adapted for their particular series production, which they are reluctant to adjust for each house object. As a support for developers and inspectors, and to ensure the quality of design and manufacturing carried out by the house manufacturers themselves, the house manufacturers can certify themselves. Certified companies have the right to label products and documentation with the RISE certification and inspection mark.

The certification process

The process of becoming certified begins with an initial examination of the manufacturer's self-inspection system, routines for design, manufacturing in the factory, storage, etc. The review is performed in relation to the certification rule, PBL, Boverket's regulations and industry rules. After that, an initial visit is made by RISE where it is checked that the above works in practice during design and manufacture. After the initial visit, the manufacturer receives his certificate.

Follow-up inspections

Follow-up inspections are carried out twice a year at the manufacturer by RISE. During these visits, it is checked that the manufacturer follows the routines and systems that have been established and reviewed at the time of certification.

Extended review

In the certification rule, there is also an option to choose design review (step 2). If this is chosen, RISE experts carry out a check of all relevant properties concerning PBL, Chapter 8, 4-5 §§ and 19-21 §§ for the company's standard constructions.

History - A look back

System for verifying the quality of factory-made single-family homes has existed since the late 1970s when there was an approval rule from the then Statens Planverk (now Boverket) with the possibility of type-approving these systems. In 1995, the conditions for type approval of control systems were changed, which is why SP together with the industry developed a certification rule (SPCR 112) to meet the need for verification of the factories' own control, mainly against building boards and the inspection manager. In 2014, the certification rule was revised (to CR 065) to better comply with current legislation.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

Digital Image Correlation measurement in mechanical testing

Digital Image Correlation measurement
DIC test set-up

Deformation measurement of materials and structures subjected to various loading is a fundamental task of experimental mechanics. Optical full-field deformation measurements based on DIC and DVC open new possibilities for engineers and scientists to better understand mechanical behaviour as deformations and strains of an object can be visualized.

Strain field from testing of large welded joint.

DIC (Digital Image Correlation) is an image analysis method that offers 3D measurements of shapes, displacement fields and strain fields of a solid test object. Because DIC is a non-contact technique that is independent of the material being tested or the length-scale of interest, it has a great flexibility and can be used in a wide variety of applications to investigate materials and components, for static as well as dynamic situations. The DIC measurement technique provides a means of enhanced analyses and is therefore a valuable tool in the fields of material characterization, product development, method development and for calibration and validation of Finite Element (FE) calculations. Some common materials that are tested include metals, polymers, concrete, rock, wood and rubber. DIC measurements can be used to identify strain localizations, crack initiation and propagations in a loaded component.

Strain field in relation to micro structure in cast iron.

DVC (Digital Volume Correlation) can essentially be considered as a volumetric extension of DIC, which enables measurements of deformations within the volume of a test object. The technique uses digital image volumes generated by, for example, X-ray Computed Tomography scanning of samples before and after loading or during in-situ tests. Full volumetric 3D measurements of displacement and strain fields are achieved from the DVC analysis. The technique offers fantastic possibilities for detailed studies of deformations and damage mechanisms occurring within the test object, in relation to the internal microstructure of the material. For instance, it is possible to relate the development of strain localizations to different phases in metals.

RISE has a long experience of optical deformation measurement based on DIC and DVC within many different application areas in both commission work and research. With our broad expertise in mechanical testing of materials and structures, we can offer customized experiments from small scale with microscope or X-ray micro-tomography, to large scale application with field of views of several meters. The measurements can be performed for slow events as well as fast events using high-speed cameras (high-speed DIC). We can offer guidance, experimental design, experimental realization, data evaluation and documentation to ensure high quality results that give answers to your questions.

Feel free to contact us if you are interested in mechanical testing with DIC and DVC measurements.

Measurement and Analysis of Surface Texture

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Measurement and Analysis of Surface Texture Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Is the surface according to the specifications? What changes in the surface texture are the effect of a process change? What differences are there in the surface texture of one surface compared to another? How is the surface texture affected by wear? Questions as these can be answered by performing a non-contacting optical measurement of the surfac

Purpose/Benefit:

Surface texture is sometimes called surface topography or surface roughness. These are terms meaning the geometrical shape of a surface at small scales, often in the micro or nano meter range. Surface texture is important for the function and performance of components in many cases. Changes in processing often show as changes in the surface texture of processed components.

With control over the surface texture it is possible to secure that specifications are well defined and whether specifications are met. It also is possible to adjust manufacturing processes and to find specifications that ensure well-functioning surfaces.
