Automotive Perception Consortium – APEC

The Automotive Perception Consortium (APEC) is a neutral international industry network dedicated to advancing the evaluation and validation of vehicle perception systems for ADAS and automated driving.

A Shared Industry Challenge

Safe automated driving depends on robust perception systems that perform reliably under a wide range of real-world conditions. However, evaluating perception performance remains one of the industry's most complex challenges, particularly when weather, lighting, road conditions and sensor contamination affect system behaviour.

APEC provides a collaborative platform where members can jointly develop, compare and demonstrate methods for assessing perception performance in realistic, repeatable and measurable conditions.

Together, we aim to contribute knowledge, data and best practice that support future industry benchmarks, standards, regulatory requirements and consumer test protocols.

Why Join APEC?

Membership strengthens your company’s ability to:

  • Access to a neutral forum for pre-competitive collaboration on perception performance and test methodology.
  • Early insight into emerging NCAP, regulatory and standardisation discussions relevant to ADAS and automated driving.
  • Joint learning from physical testing, simulation, sensor data and real-world environmental challenges.
  • Opportunities to influence future test cases, validation approaches and industry best practice.

APEC is designed for organisations that need reliable knowledge about how perception systems perform when visibility, lighting, road surface conditions or sensor cleanliness change. Members take part in a focused network where practical testing experience, research results and future needs are discussed in a structured way.

Who Should Join?

APEC is designed for organisations working with:

  • ADAS and automated driving
  • Perception systems and sensor technologies
  • Validation and verification
  • Testing and simulation
  • Functional safety and performance assessment
  • Vehicle regulations and consumer testing

Whether your focus is development, testing, certification or research, APEC provides a structured forum for addressing the next generation of perception validation challenges.

More information

The network is coordinated by RISE, Sweden’s independent research institute, and several of its meetings are held at AstaZero, our proving ground and one of the world’s leading test facilities for connected and autonomous transport systems. The network is built around recurring member meetings, expert presentations, technical workshops and practical demonstrations.

The format is intended to support open exchange while respecting each member’s commercial interests and confidentiality requirements.
