AI-Powered App for Personal Health Management

21 June 2023, 14:57

When Per-Uno Malmström, professor of urology at Uppsala University, initiated a health app that allows healthy individuals to conduct self-assessments at home, RISE was hired to develop an AI algorithm to evaluate user responses.

The app, which users would interact with by entering test results and answering health-related questions, was designed to provide specific advice and assist the user in various ways. For example, the app could suggest an exercise program to manage an overactive bladder.

The long-term vision for the app also includes features to help doctors make decisions and recommend future diagnoses and treatments. To realize this vision, they needed to quickly develop an AI algorithm to evaluate users' responses and compare them with prototype cases.

"The prototype showed a strong correlation with expert judgements when tested, demonstrating the effectiveness and reliability of the AI algorithm," says Martin Nilsson at RISE.

As the AI algorithm prototype transitions to a mobile application, the project is getting closer to Professor Malmström's goal of empowering individuals to proactively manage their health and support doctors in diagnosis and treatment.
