RISE initiates AI collaboration with the Swedish Medical Products Agency and Uppsala University

In a new research collaboration in artificial intelligence, a doctoral position in applied artificial intelligence with a focus on drug safety is being established.

Since 2021, the Swedish Medical Products Agency has worked to build competence and capacity in the field of artificial intelligence, and it is now expanding the investment through a research collaboration with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and Uppsala University. Over the next five years, the parties will jointly finance a doctoral position in applied AI with a focus on drug safety.

- We are very happy about the great interest from Swedish AI researchers to collaborate with us, says Gabriel Westman, who is the scientific leader for AI at the Swedish Medical Products Agency's. It will add both knowledge and capability, and create valuable network effects when regulatory, academic and technical skills are given the chance to meet in this way.

- Pharmaceutical safety is a priority area for the authority, and we see great potential in the application of the AI​​-​​technology that has been developed in recent years.

Joakim Nivre is a senior researcher in artificial intelligence at RISE and professor of computational linguistics at Uppsala University.
