Evaluation of cybersecurity and functional safety

RISE conducts accredited testing and evaluation of cybersecurity for charging stations and public charging points.

Test of electricity meters for
CE-marking

We offer testing and certification of electric meters in charging stations according to Swedish and international standards. 

RISE is accredited for testing electric meters and certification to meet the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID). We are a notified body for MID and can issue approvals for the entire EU. Testing and certification can be performed for the electric meter module in AC charging stations according to MID. Charging stations are not yet covered by MID, but there is an ongoing process to implement them in the directive.

EMC and radio communication: testing and certification for CE- marking

We conduct accredited EMC and radio testing of AC charging stations to comply with the EMC Directive and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), where we are also a notified body. 

EMC testing is performed according to IEC 61851-21-2. 

Radio testing is conducted according to relevant ETSI standards, for example:

Electrical safety and environmental durability testing

In electrical safety and environmental durability testing, we ensure that the charging station is safe from electric shock and fire. We assist with:

• Accredited electrical safety testing of AC charging stations to meet the Low Voltage Directive (LVD).
• Testing according to SS-EN IEC 61851-1 Electric Vehicle - Conductive Charging (harmonized standard under LVD). The manufacturer certifies compliance with the directive through self-declaration.
• Environmental durability and IP testing according to generic standards as a complement for protection against heat, cold, moisture, water, and dust, as well as shocks and vibrations (partially included in SS-EN IEC 61851-1).

It is important to save energy for a household and through the open and voluntary energy classification from SIS / TK 519, tapware manufacturers, building companies, property owners and authorities have agreed on a label similar to that for white goods.

The purpose of the energy classification is to help e.g. consumers and real estate players by impartially choosing energy-saving sanitary tapware such as kitchen mixers, washbasin mixers and thermostatic mixers with showers.

Laboratory tests have shown that there are large differences in energy use between different brands and models of tap water mixers.

An energy-classified sanitary fitting in classes A, B and C also benefits from an assessment in a construction product declaration.

Energy classification and labeling shall be based on testing according to Swedish standards developed within SIS Technical Committee Energy labeling of tap water mixers, SIS / TK 519. From measured energy use, sanitary mixers are classified according to the standards SS 820000 or SS 820001.

RISE can help with the entire process of energy classification of a tap water mixer, everything from testing, certification and annual inspection visits.

The certificate is published on the RISE website.

Holders can refer to the certificate and show that the product has been tested and certified by a third party.

A certificate is issued with a validity period of 10 years. The certificate can then be renewed. The validity presupposes that the certified products that are continuously placed on the market meet the requirements and that the continuous review and assessment of the manufacturer's system for self-inspection is carried out according to plan.

What is security?

The word security often means to protect from something, and historically this has meant different physical and mechanical forms of protection, like a door, a lock or a vault. As things have evolved, we have increasingly started to use electronic products, such as alarms and surveillance cameras to protect from intrusions and burglary. Things do not stop there, as with digitalization there are new risks and new words such as “hacker attack” and “cyber security”. One of the unique aspects of digital intrusions is that they transcend borders and are not limited by geography, in the way that a physical burglary is. There are many good reasons to certify products and for us it is obvious that security product should be certified. A certificate is an attestation that an independent third party has verified the characteristics of the product. While a certificate is often a requirement in procurement negotiations, a certificate from RISE also has value in marketing.

The road to certifying a product starts with an application sent together with the necessary documentation for the product in question. After reviewing the documentation RISE will together with the customer plan the necessary activities. When the requirements have been fulfilled the certificate will be issued.

RISE SPCR 177 “Certification rules for Standards issued by Swedish Theft Prevention Association”

As an approved certification body by the Swedish Theft prevention association (SSF) we can certify a broad range of products such as digital lock units according to SF 3523, Internet of Things products according to SSF 1120, fixed mounted lock units according to SSF 3522, secure cabinets according to SSF 3492, roller curtains and grilles according to SSF 012. RISE SPCR 201 ”Certification rules for security products”

An accredited certification for pedestrian doorsets, windows, curtain walling, grilles and shutters according to EN 1627, Safes, ATM safes, strongroom doors and strongrooms according to EN 1143-1, deposit systems according to EN 1143-2, padlocks according to EN 12320, secure storage units according to EN 14450, control and indicating equipment and power supplies for alarm system according to EN 50131 and supervised Premises Transceiver for alarm systems according to EN 50136.

SPCR 187 “Certification of doors and windows according to PAS 24”

An accredited certification which allows the certificate holder to obtain a license with Secured By Design (SBD) in the United Kingdom. This certification includes doors and windows and is based on British standards as well as the British building regulation. The certification process is extensive and besides the security aspect, characteristics such as windload, air and water permeability, thermal transmittance, durability, material quality and others must be verified through testing and documentation.

An accredited certification for electromechanically operated locks according to EN 14846, cylinders for locks according to EN 1303, mechanically operated locks and locking plates according to EN 12209, lever handles and knob furniture according to EN 1906 and mechatronic cylinders according EN 15684. The certification includes additional characteristics such as function, durability, suitability for use on fire /smoke resistance doors and more.

We can perform penetration tests (PEN test) on products where cyber security is a requirement and all the necessary mechanical and electric testing required for certification. See links to our laboratories further down this page.

Upon project completion a Certificate that the product(s) fulfils the requirements in RISE certification rules and the relevant standard(s) will be delivered. The Certificate will also be published on RISE webpage for the duration of its validity and the customer will have the right to mark and market the products as “Certified by RISE”.

RISE offers testing and certification of IoT devices according to cybersecurity requirements from the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and the Swedish Theft Prevention Association SSF‎.

IoT devices are consumer products that anyone can have in their home and that can connect to the internet. Examples include smart TVs, home assistants, smart speakers, connected household appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, connected alarm systems, digital door locks, smoke detectors or baby monitors.

These products have become part of our daily life and although they help us in many daily routines, they can compromise our privacy and security if not designed correctly. Security standards such as ETSI EN 303 645 and SSF 1120-1 contain requirements on cybersecurity aspects that the product needs to meet, ensuring a higher level of security.

With the increasing use of internet-connected products in the home, the likelihood of cyber-attacks is increasing. It is important that the product is developed and tested correctly to withstand such attacks. The ETSI EN 303645 standard defines the basic requirements for IoT products throughout the product life cycle such as the design, development, manufacturing, use and maintenance phases.

Testing IoT devices against the ETSI EN 303645 standard assesses whether the product meets the general cybersecurity requirements of the standard and testing against the SSF 1120-1 standard tests whether the product can withstand an attack through penetration testing.

OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD is a certification for leather products and accessories that have been tested for harmful substances. Ready to get started on certifying your leather products? RISE is the official OEKO-TEX® institute for Sweden and Norway, and also certifies OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD in the Baltic countries and Finland.

Certification from fiber to Product

Leather and leather articles from all processing levels can be certified: from semi-finished leather products to finished articles. This includes leather fiber materials, leather clothing, leather accessories such as e.g. leather gloves, leather bags and leather shoes and also leather (e.g. sheepskin, lambskin, cowhide). We do not certify the leather from exotic or protected animals such as crocodiles, snakes and armadillos. We test textile or non-textile components in a leather article in accordance with the criteria in the current STANDARD 100 of OEKO-TEX®.

The tests are only performed at one of the prestigious and renowned textile research and test institutes connected to the OEKO-TEX® Association. RISE is the only institute in Sweden and Norway authorized to certify according to OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD.

Test criteria

OEKO-TEX®  LEATHER STANDARD does not only include substances that are banned or that have legally established limits, but also includes other substances that have been scientifically proven or are suspected to have adverse health effects.
Examples of parameters that are included in  OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD are prohibited azo dyes, carcinogenic and allergenic dyes, phthalates, formaldehyde, pesticides, heavy metals, perfluorinated compounds, organic tin compounds, biologically active products, and flame-retardant materials etc.

The parameters included in the requirements are based on:

• Legally prohibited and controlled substances (REACH related and CPSIA-adapted regarding lead.
• Substances that may be harmful to health.
• Product quality
• Biologically active substances and flame retardants (according to an "approved" list).

Product classes

In order for the limits values to be relevant for different types of products, there are four different types of product classes based on the certified product's intended area of use:

• Product Class I – Products for children up to 3 years
• Product Class II – Products that mostly come in direct contact with skin
• Product Class III – Products which do not come in contact with the skin, or do so only to a small extent

OEKO-TEX®  LEATHER STANDARD

RISE tests, certifies and perform manufacturing inspections of hatches of tongued and grooved boards.

To show that the hatches you manufacture meet the requirements of BBR (the Swedish building authoritys' regulation of building), we can help with a type approval. Today, there is no harmonized EN standard for the product, which makes it more difficult to CE mark it. We can also test and verify hatches properties in terms of step through safety to show that you comply with the Swedish Work Environment Authority's rules

When issuing a type approval, the manufacturer and the hatch are checked against the parts relevant to the product in the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's regulations BBR and EKS. A type approval also means that the product is placed under ongoing production control in the factory.

Step through safety is tested according to SP method 0487. In short, the method involves testing the hatches at the weakest point three times (on different hatches). The average value of the three load points must be at least 220 kg, and no point must be less than 200 kg.

Certifying your wastewater treatment plant according to Revaq (SPCR 167) is a voluntary commitment that shows you are taking responsibility for the environment and for the quality of the sludge spread on farmland. The certification is carried out by RISE as an independent party, which gives your customers and partners extra security and confidence.

Certification of wastewater treatment plants according to Revaq (SPCR 167) means that you, as an operator, undertake to:

• work with continuous improvements
• carry out systematic upstream work
• be able to account for how each individual batch of sludge is handled and where it is spread on farmland
• the sludge spread on farmland must be of Revaq quality                                                                                                                               
• You get full traceability – each batch of sludge can be accounted for and tracked all the way to spreading. Certification strengthens your brand and gives you the right to use the certification mark in marketing contexts.

The certification strengthens the confidence of farmers, municipalities, and society at large.

Prior to certification, the operator must be able to demonstrate that certain fundamental elements of upstream work and self-monitoring have been developed. The certification audit examines compliance with the requirements of the certification system. Certificates are issued once any deviations identified during the audit have been rectified. To retain the certificate, continuous work in accordance with the regulations is required. RISE conducts annual audits to ensure that the requirements continue to be met.

Certification by RISE gives your business an independent and credible seal of quality.

A certification audit can usually be booked 3-4 weeks in advance.

In order to begin a certification of compost according to SPCR 152, an application must be submitted to RISE. During the qualification year, this must be supplemented with technical documentation, test reports and a description of the manufacturer's self-monitoring.

RISE performs inspections and tests trusses and helps with certification and CE marking according to EN 14250. As a manufacturer of wooden houses and wooden house components, you can be certified against RISE certification rule CR065, and you can also test your constructions at our facilities.

We usually thinks of the standard EN 14250 as the "Roof truss standard", but EN 14250 also covers other load-bearing structures that are joined together with punched metal plate fasteners and are prefabricated. This enables easy CE marking of even those products.

RISE has a broad competence in the field and can help with the following:

RISE has extensive experience of working with different types of grading machines and visual sorting.

We work with:

• initial tests of new types of grading machines
• installation verification of grading machines at sawmills and in other industries

 For CE-marked timber, we work according to the standard EN 14081, but EN 15497 is also relevant with regard to finger-jointed construction timber.

After the United Kingdom left the EU, the CE marking is no longer a valid marking for structural timber. The CE marking is instead replaced by their own UKCA marking. Together with partners, RISE also offers this certification. During a transition period that lasts until 2025-06-30, both labeling systems are valid. Thereafter only the UKCA label is valid.

Testing of timber takes place with help of load and position controlled hydraulic equipment.

The P-mark is a certification for air filters intended for ventilation systems within the classification groups ISO ePM1, ISO ePM2.5 and ISO ePM10. The P-mark is RISE own quality label, which is found on many products and services, of which air filters are one.

The P-marking is a way of showing how requirements in Swedish building regulations and in voluntary requirements are fulfilled. P-marking of air filters is a voluntary commitment which means that the quality of the filters is controlled by an independent party, which contributes to increasing customers’ confidence in the product.

The P-marking is based on certification rule CR 055 ”Air filter for ventilation plants”. In order for an air filter to be P-marked, it must first be tested with regard to: initial pressure drop and filter class according to ISO 16890, energy consumption according to Eurovent 4/21 and long-term characteristics that are evaluated over three months with regard to degree of filtration efficiency.

In addition, the manufacturer is required to have a functioning quality system for its production. The manufacturer’s factory production control is monitored; an agreement is signed with RISE on continuous inspections and thereafter RISE performs external inspection every year at the production site, including sampling for test in accordance with ISO 16890.

If the requirements of the certification rule are fulfilled, a certificate may be issued and the filter could then be marked with the P-mark. Certificates can include a product group, also called a product family, and can thus include more articles than the one being tested. The certificate is valid for five years and can then be renewed for further five-year periods.
