SEEL Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory
Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory AB (SEEL) is a national test centre for research and development in electromobility. Through advanced test environments and leading expertise, SEEL supports the development of future electrified transport solutions and strengthens a sustainable and competitive battery value chain in Sweden and Europe.
SEEL is owned by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB and the Chalmers University of Technology Foundation. Operations are carried out at three test facilities - located in Säve outside Gothenburg, Nykvarn and Borås - where researchers and industry can jointly develop, verify, and evaluate technologies for electrified vehicles and energy systems.
By bringing together expertise, advanced infrastructure, and independent test environments, SEEL promotes faster knowledge development and effective collaboration between industry stakeholders. The goal is to accelerate the electrification of the transport sector and strengthen a sustainable and competitive battery value chain in Sweden and Europe.
The automotive and aviation industries, the maritime sector, and technology suppliers can test prototypes and products in modern, independent test environments equipped with state‑of‑the‑art technology. SEEL also offers a shared platform where companies meet and benefit from ongoing technological development and transition, while researchers from universities, colleges, and research institutes conduct advanced studies using SEEL’s infrastructure.
SEEL is also involved in a major European collaboration project within the framework of IPCEI Batteries, together with companies from Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, and Germany. Together, the partners contribute to strengthening Europe’s capability to develop and produce next‑generation battery technology.
