As one of Sweden's largest export markets, the changing trade conditions have a direct impact on volumes, routes, costs, and transport planning.
The background to the project is that maritime supply chains in recent years have been exposed to several disruptions that have affected companies' ability to maintain stable flows. Changes in trade tariffs can alter the conditions for how actors operate and what strategies they use to secure capacity, service levels, and sustainability goals. To understand these initial effects, the project examines how different actors in the maritime supply chains perceive and manage the changes.
The project conducts interviews with exporting and importing companies, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and ports. By analyzing their experiences, a consolidated picture is created of how the tariffs affect logistical decisions, cost structures, capacity utilization, and the possibilities to maintain or develop sustainable shipping solutions. The study also highlights how the actors assess the continued development and what adjustments may be necessary in the short term.
The project's findings will be compiled in a final report and presented at an open seminar. The goal is to contribute timely and relevant insights that can support companies, decision-makers, and researchers in better understanding and managing trade policy changes that affect maritime supply chains.
