Purpose

One of the most common causes of battery failures is the cracking or detachment of the electrode coating material from the current collector.

This problem is usually caused by mechanical stress during use and the constant charging and discharging of the battery. It is crucial to evaluate the adhesion strength of electrodes before and after accelerated aging to ensure that a battery does not fail prematurely.

For new designs, it is important to understand how electrode adhesion is affected by different binders and elements. The two most common tests to characterize adhesive properties and monitor production materials for electrodes are 90° peel tests and 180° peel tests.
