About SEEL
SEEL, Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory, is a collaboration between Chalmers and RISE for research and development in electromobility. We operate three state-of-the-art test facilities in Gothenburg, Nykvarn, and Borås. Our mission is to accelerate the development of electrified transportation by creating an efficient knowledge platform where industry and research meet. We offer testing services for the automotive, aerospace, and maritime industries – from component level to complete systems – and execute advanced electromobility research.
We are in a scale-up phase, and we have around 35 dedicated employees with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. The open position is located at SEEL in Gothenburg, where most of your colleagues work, but you will also support our other office in Nykvarn. The role is part of the SEEL Research team and reports to the Research Director. The team currently includes two senior battery researchers and one senior researcher specializing in electric machines. The battery researchers collaborate closely with the Energy Storage Testing team.
The role
In this role, you will take a leading position in advanced battery cell aging and degradation analysis, working with lithium‑ion, sodium‑ion, and next‑generation chemistries. You will design and execute complex tests, perform cell teardown and electrochemical characterization, and contribute to scientific publications, reports, and presentations.
You will also play an important part in developing our laboratory capabilities by improving methods, tools, and workflows. This includes responsibility for selected key equipment, chemical handling routines, and safety procedures. Close collaboration with industrial and academic partners is essential, as you will help translate industry needs into relevant and impactful research projects.
The role includes monthly travel within Sweden and occasional international trips, mainly within Europe.
Who are you?
You are expected to work proactively and independently while maintaining a strong team‑oriented mindset when collaborating with colleagues in the laboratory. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to clearly present and explain complex results to audiences with diverse technical backgrounds.
Required qualifications:
· Master’s degree in a battery-related field and industrial experience, or doctoral degree in a battery-related field.
· Expertise in battery chemistry, materials, and/or electrochemical methods.
· Hands-on laboratory experience within battery research.
· Excellent spoken and written English.
Meritorious qualifications:
· Experience from working with lithium- and sodium-ion batteries, glove boxes, cyclers, teardown of commercial battery cells, and degradation diagnostics.
· Project management and leadership skills.
· Swedish language skills.
