Objective

The goal of the initiative is to create a long-term innovation environment where different types of actors can work together to strengthen existing and create new initiatives in the areas of infection prevention, responsible antibiotic use, good monitoring and knowledge dissemination. In an antibiotic-smart Sweden, citizens have knowledge of the consequences of antibiotic resistance and how they can act to reduce the spread of infection and to use antibiotics correctly, where all municipalities and regions work with improvement projects based on awareness of infection prevention and sustainable antibiotic use, and where we import and export antibiotic-smart working methods. An antibiotic-smart Sweden understands that access to effective antibiotics is part of sustainable development and includes both the actors who are already active in the field as well as those who would need to get started - all to prepare for the future.

Challenges

Antibiotics are a prerequisite for our ability to prevent and treat infections, but also for modern healthcare in general. Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem worldwide, an increase that is accelerating as a result of systematic misuse and overuse in both animals and humans combined with insufficient preventive measures and the spread of infection. In the EU alone, 33,000 people die each year due to antibiotic resistance, and globally the corresponding figure is over 1.2 million. Antibiotic resistance is not only a threat to human health, but also to animal health and to a sustainable society.

Solution

As antibiotic resistance is a complex societal challenge, we all need to help each other to take on this challenge - we therefore need to be more and do more. With the vision of an antibiotic-smart Sweden as a benchmark, we want to invite more actors to work to strengthen the conditions for antibiotics to continue to be effective in curing infections. We need to create new, innovative efforts and ways of working while making use of everything that is already being done around Sweden and the world. Target groups for the efforts are currently residents, municipalities and regions and their activities (preschool, school, care for the elderly and disabled, water and waste-water mangagement organizations, hospitals and primary care) as well as international actors. However, we are constantly working to include more target groups.

Fixed Point Calibration at The National Laboratory

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Fixed Point Calibration at The National Laboratory Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

The National Laboratory for Temperature offers fixed point calibration of resistance thermometers and thermocouples.

Purpose/Benefit:

The national laboratories have are responsible for maintaining the national reference standards for each measurement quantity and spreading metrological competence and traceability to industry and society at large. The national reference standards are the highest level of traceability in Sweden.

A calibration performed at a national laboratory fullfils all typical traceability and accreditation requirements that commonly exist in industry and society at large.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

At present, RISE can realize the following eleven fixed points

  • The triple points for water, argon and mercury
  • The freezing points for indium, tin, zinc, aluminum, silver, gold and copper
  • The melting point for gallium.

This means that RISE has the opportunity to directly reproduce the temperature scale according to ITS-90 in the entire range -189.3442 ° C to 2600 ° C.

Cell type fixing points

All fixing points are of cell type, ie a metal crucible, where the thermometer is inserted into a protective tube surrounded by the pure metal.

The thread method provides calibration up to 1600 ° C

We calibrate platinum-based thermocouples in both fixed-point cells and according to the so-called wire method. In the wire method, gold and palladium wires are melted in a tube furnace so that certain plateaus in the thermo-voltage curve are created, which allows calibration up to 1600 ° C.

We can offer complete fixed point calibrated platinum thermocouples with storage box and calibration table.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

The calibration results are reported in a digital calibration certificate in Swedish or English which states that the calibration was performed at a national laboratory.

Assessment of the ignitability of bedding items according to SS-EN ISO 12952-1 and SS-EN ISO 12952-2

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): SS-EN ISO 12952 Fire test of bedding items Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Fires can be caused by, for example, bed linens that catch fire through bed smoking. The flammability of bedding products is an important feature to consider when evaluating fire risks. The test is carried out where either a glowing cigarette or a match-like flame equivalent is used as a source of ignition. These two methods are useful for evaluating flammability for pillows, duvets, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, thin bed mattresses etc.

Purpose/Benefit:

The method aims to evaluate the flammability of bedding products.

The ability of bedding products to be easy ignited provides a basis for assessing its suitability for use in certain environments. Different requirements may apply in different types of environments. In hospital environments, for example, there are more stringent requirements if the product will be used in high-risk environments than if it will be used in normal-risk environments.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The method SS-EN ISO ISO 12952-1 is carried out by placing glowing cigarettes on, under and or between textile layers on the product. The cigarettes will burn out their full length and the sample material is evaluated based on whether or not ignition occurs. The test is performed after the test material has been washed 5 times.

The SS-EN ISO 12952-2 method is performed by placing a match flame equivalent on the product for 15 seconds. The test material is evaluated on the basis of if ignited or not. The test is performed after the test material has been washed 5 times.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

One report in Swedish or English containing the test results.

Delivery time:

Normal delivery time is 5-10 working days. A more accurate delivery time is stated in the order confirmation which is sent after received order and sample material.

Analysis of organic substances in materials and products with GCMS, GCFID, Headspace GCMS, LCUV (HPLC), LCMS, LCMSMS, FT

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Analysis of organic compounds in materials and products Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Examples of organic substances are additives such as dyes, biocides, surfactants, preservatives, consistency sensors, flame retardants (in, for example, plastics and electronics), plasticizers (phthalates) or other additives in plastics and rubber.

Purpose/Benefit:

The results of the analyzes can be compared against different EU directives (eg. REACH, RoHS and the toy directive, cosmetics regulation) and different chemical lists (SinList, TEDX etc.) to determine whether the material / product contains CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive toxicants) substances, SVHC substances (Substances of Very High Concern) or classified as PBT / vPvB substance (Persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic / very persistent and very bioaccumulative).

Some functional chemicals that have been noted for environmental reasons include PCBs, PAHs, phthalates, perfluorinated substances (PFOA / PFAS), Bisphenol A (BPA) and various volatile and / or odoriferous substances.

Functional chemicals of biological origin can sometimes vary slightly in composition or being sensitive to heating or otherwise affecting the molecular structure. Therefore, quality control and other characterization of biomolecules place high demands on the laboratory.

Organic substances can be detected in various media such as water, tissues, biomull, particles, waste, air or other gas mixtures as well as in different materials and goods. The substances often occur in very low levels.
