Visibility of Value Networks for Circularity and Eco-efficiency

The project largely achieved its original goals. Sustainability methodologies were successfully developed, tools were delivered as planned at process, factory, supply chain, and product levels. The project also revealed the need for integrated data modelling and traceability across these levels as a key enabler for future implementation.

The VIVACE project will capitalize on industrial digitalization and combine multiple perspectives (from whole value chains and product life cycles, to supply chains and process levels) to create a toolkit with scalable data-supported solutions for circular and eco-efficient production.

The project directly aims to support manufacturing companies in their sustainability journey through enhanced circularity and eco-efficiency.

The objectives are to:

  • Develop and validate a framework for production and supply network visibility to support decision making towards increased resource efficiency and circularity.
  • Develop a practical toolkit (scalable tools and methods) to enhance transparency and visibility of environmental performance across the product life cycle.
  • Translate EU sustainability requirements into actionable KPIs, select what to measure (supply chain-oriented, product-oriented and process-oriented KPIs).
  • Develop data models to support automated identification of improvements for resource efficiency and waste reduction in production and along supply chains.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to generate long-term impacts by enabling more data-driven, efficient and reliable circular value flows. Over time, the results may enhance the competitiveness of Swedish industry through increased circularity, reduced environmental impact, and stronger collaboration across the industrial ecosystem. The project also establishes a platform for further research and innovation in digital environmental performance management and circular business models.

Approach and implementation

The project was executed through multiple work packages covering product, supply chain, factory, and process levels. The project followed a structured plan built around parallel industrial case studies, regular coordination meetings, and cross-WP synthesis activities. A final cross-WP analysis consolidated the results and identified essential interdependencies and future development needs.
