RISE and KENTECH (Korea Institute of Energy Technology) are now establishing a joint research center in Naju City, South Korea, to drive innovation in the electrification of the transport and industrial sectors through cutting-edge research in semiconductors and power electronics.
“Our strategic collaboration with South Korean partners marks an important milestone in the development of high-performance power electronics and next-generation semiconductor technologies. Together, we are enabling smarter and more energy-efficient solutions to build the society of the future,” says Paul Halle Zahl Pedersen, Division Manager for Digital Systems at RISE.
The collaboration combines Sweden’s strengths in applied research with South Korea’s rapidly growing innovation ecosystem and strong manufacturing industry. At the university in Naju City, where KENTECH is based, shared technical infrastructure and demonstrators will enable the partners to jointly develop new research programs, conduct industry-oriented education, and strengthen cooperation between researchers and doctoral students.
“What’s so exciting about this initiative is how well we complement each other. In Sweden, we have world-leading advanced research, and South Korea has industrial expertise and scale that are unique in the world. Together, we can truly accelerate progress in sustainable energy,” says Björn Samel, Head of the Smart Hardware Department at RISE.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the initiative was signed in Seoul during Team Sweden’s official visit, attended by Crown Princess Victoria and Minister for Infrastructure Andreas Carlson.
