Contact LarsDissolving pulp is an important product used in the manufacture of fiber materials, which are used in the textile industry.
With today's high focus on sustainability, cellulose pulp is both a substitute for synthetic textile materials made from oil and a substitute/complement to cotton, which requires large areas of land to grow and large volumes of water for irrigation.
The cellulose pulp area covers both the production and evaluation of the pulp for different applications. The main application is the viscose process, but there are also other processes for regenerating cellulose and different types of cellulose derivatives. This area also includes the modification of fibres such as pulp fibres, natural fibres such as cotton and recycled textile fibres. Expertise in this area includes process optimisation of the chemical pulping process, the viscose process and the subsequent spinning process as well as the treatment of fibres for more efficient modification and improved dissolution of the cellulose.
RISE has long experience and deep knowledge of the two main pulp processes for the production of dissolving pulp: the sulphite process and the sulphate process before hydrolysis. The activities in this area include optimization of the process parameters in the different unit processes in boiling and bleaching with respect to both energy and chemical consumption as well as to the properties of the final product. In this area, RISE has also worked extensively with modification of recycled textile fibres, mainly cotton fibres, such as decolourisation or activation of the fibre wall for subsequent steps.
RISE is unique in Europe in having a complete set of pilots under one roof; from chipping, digestion and bleaching via viscose solution to viscose yarn as a final product in a spinning pilot. In addition, there are opportunities to test processes other than the viscose process to regenerate the cellulose and to investigate different types of raw materials and their suitability to produce regenerated cellulose and different types of cellulose derivatives. We can offer you tailor-made projects through the whole chain from cellulose feedstock to yarn. Customers can be existing producers of dissolving cellulose, future players in this field and various research initiatives. In addition to the pilot projects, there is the possibility of complete analysis and evaluation of the respective process steps and the properties of the final products in our laboratories.
