Concrete Technology for Industry – A Course in Cement and Concrete

Do you want to reduce your CO₂ footprint, manage residual materials, or understand what new concrete and cement technology means for your business? RISE offers a course built around your challenges – with researchers who work on these questions daily, and the option to tailor the content to your specific needs.

Cement and Concrete – Knowledge That Opens New Possibilities

Many organizations encounter questions around cement and concrete without the technical foundation needed to act on them. This can involve material selection, procurement, product development, facility maintenance – or entirely new business opportunities that require an understanding of how these materials behave. Without the right knowledge, it's difficult to make well-founded decisions, set the right requirements for suppliers, or see the opportunities that actually exist. It costs – in money, in time, and in missed business opportunities.

For society, the stakes are even greater. Cement and concrete account for a significant share of global CO₂ emissions. Every organization that understands these materials better contributes to smarter resource use, less waste, and a faster transition toward sustainable construction – in line with Sweden's climate goals and the EU's requirements for a circular economy.

How the Course Is Delivered

The course is held at RISE's facility in Borås and delivered by active RISE researchers with specialist expertise in cement, concrete, sustainability, and standardization. Teaching combines lectures with group discussions and practical case studies drawn from real industrial challenges – allowing participants to directly connect the knowledge to their own operations.

A central and unique feature is the laboratory visit at RISE in Borås, where participants get a hands-on introduction to testing methods, materials, and the research infrastructure available for industrial collaboration. At RISE, everything is gathered under one roof – from fundamental materials science to advanced testing and industrial application.

The core course runs over two days and can be extended with tailored advanced modules – in areas such as sustainability, digitalization, testing, circular economy, and industry-specific applications – adapted to your organization's challenges, goals, and industry. The course can also be delivered on-site at your organization for customized programs or larger groups.

The course is delivered in English, enabling participation from international teams. For Swedish companies that need the course in Swedish, this is something we can discuss together.

What You'll Take Away From the Course

Each participant receives a written confirmation of participation from RISE, documenting attendance and completed course content – useful for internal competence records and in procurement or regulatory contexts.

All participants receive digital course materials – lecture presentations, technical summaries, and reference materials – designed to serve as a practical resource long after the course ends.

For the organization, RISE delivers a summary of the discussions and challenges raised during the course – concrete input for further decisions on competence development, material strategy, or research collaboration with RISE.

The course also opens a direct gateway to RISE's network of researchers and experts in cement, concrete, and related fields – for those who want to take things further after the course.
