Course content

Introduction to circularity and reuse
An introduction to circularity and reuse in the construction industry. We show how a more resource-efficient approach can reduce climate impact while creating value. Key concepts are explained and we highlight what characterizes the quality of a reused construction product.

Current legislation and standards
This section provides a clear picture of current regulations and upcoming requirements related to reuse in construction. We review the driving forces, challenges, and how legislation and standards affect the possibilities of building with quality-assured reuse.

Suitable products for reuse
Here you will find an overview of which construction products are suitable for reuse in different contexts. We discuss important aspects such as quality, climate impact, and lifespan, with a particular focus on cement- and wood-based products.

LCA and climate savings
This section provides an overview of how life cycle assessment (LCA) is used to assess the climate impact of reclaimed building products. We show how reuse and circular solutions can contribute to significant emission reductions in a building compared to new construction.

Circular business models
An introduction to circular business models and how they can be applied to reclaimed building products. We describe basic circular principles and how incentives, actors, and value chains interact in practice.

Procurement and requirements
This section provides insights into how reclaimed construction products can be integrated and clarified in procurement processes.

Target

The course is aimed at property owners, developers, and those working with property management, project management, or sustainability issues in the property sector.
