How can we build sustainably? Forum Samhällsbyggnad 2026 brings the industry together

For the third consecutive year, RISE is bringing together leading players from industry, the public sector, and research to engage in crucial discussions about the future of society. The 2026 edition focuses on sustainable construction—and how new requirements, regulations, and ambitions can be translated into real change.

As urban planning becomes more complex, regulations in the construction sector are tightened, and demands for circular material flows increase, there is also a growing need for arenas where professionals can meet and solve challenges together. On March 24, 2026 RISE will bring together actors from across the urban development sector for this year's Forum Samhällsbyggnad (Urban Development Forum), this time in Gothenburg.

This year's theme, Sustainable Construction – From Regulations to Real Change, explores how the transition is becoming a practical reality: in planning and design, in procurement and governance, and out on the construction site where decisions have concrete consequences. During the day, decision-makers, researchers, and practitioners will meet to discuss what is needed to transform the construction and real estate sector—at a time when both the pace and complexity are increasing.

Katarina Malaga, Business Development Manager for Sustainable Construction at RISE and responsible for the new Center for Quality-Assured Reuse, highlights the need for structures that enable scalable and quality-assured reuse.

“The industry wants to transform—we see that every day. But to succeed, we need common solutions, clear rules, and practical tools that work in reality. That is precisely what the forum will discuss,” says Katarina Malaga.

Forum Samhällsbyggnad has quickly established itself as an important meeting place for professionals seeking both knowledge and collaboration.

"The fact that we are organizing Forum Samhällsbyggnad for the third year in a row shows how great the need is for open dialogue in order to drive the broad societal change that a sustainable future requires. RISE is an enabler — both for dialogue and for creating real change. No single actor can do it alone. It requires partnerships between research, industry, and the public sector," says Marco Lucisano, Senior Vice President, Built Environment at RISE.
