Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory (SEEL) in Nykvarn offers advanced testing and development capabilities for energy storage systems, batteries, and high‑performance electric drivelines for heavy vehicles. Here, industry, the public sector, and research actors receive support to develop, verify and accelerate their electrification journey.
Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory (SEEL) in Nykvarn offers one of Europe’s most advanced testing environments for heavy‑duty vehicles, energy storage systems, and electric drivelines. Here you gain access to high‑tech testing capabilities where prototypes and products undergo rigorous validation before entering the market.
SEEL is owned by RISE and Chalmers and is a central part of the pan‑European IPCEI initiative. The Nykvarn facility specializes in testing batteries, energy storage systems, and high‑performance electric axles for trucks, buses, and construction machinery, serving as a strategic hub for the development of next‑generation electrified heavy transport.
At SEEL Nykvarn, complex challenges within battery validation, driveline optimization and system integration are met with scientifically grounded methods that ensure performance, durability and safety. The environment supports the entire development chain – from concepts and prototypes to verification, certification and industrialization.
SEEL Nykvarn welcomes actors from the automotive, aviation, maritime and energy sectors, as well as the national defence sector and technology‑driven startups. Here, global OEMs and smaller development companies meet with a need for qualified and independent testing capacity. By combining advanced equipment with deep system expertise, we create the conditions for faster, safer and more cost‑efficient development.
SEEL consists of three complementary test facilities. In addition to the site in Nykvarn, there is a modern test environment in Säve with the capacity to test batteries, electric motors, electric axles, and complete electric vehicles. The facility in Borås is specialized in safety‑critical battery testing, ensuring that batteries meet stringent requirements during use, handling, and production. Together, the three facilities create an integrated and powerful environment for safe, efficient, and innovative development of future electrified transportation.
