ISO 44001:2017

With the new European Drinking Water Directive (DWD), we are moving from today's voluntary type approval to a harmonised and in practice mandatory system for the assessment of products in contact with drinking water. The new regulations entail stricter requirements and a common European methodology to ensure that products are safe to use.

From 1 January 2027, the following will apply:

• New products placed on the market must comply with the requirements of the DWD
• Products without national approvals as of 31 December 2026 must be assessed under the new system in order to be sold within the EU

Products with existing national approvals are subject to transitional provision

RISE is accredited according to ISO/IEC 17065 for product certification and can therefore provide independent assessments in accordance with the DWD. Our laboratory is established and accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025, enabling an efficient and integrated offering – from testing to certification.

The timeline for implementation is tight, making early preparation essential. Type approval (see related information below) is a good way to demonstrate fitness for intended use until the system is fully implemented.

• It will be possible to obtain type approval until 31 December 2026. This can facilitate the transition to the DWD and provide additional time for adaptation
• Products with valid national approvals may, according to the transitional provisions, continue to be sold until 2032
• After the transition period, all products must comply with the requirements of the DWD

On request

On the Swedish market, there is a requirement (STAFS 2022:1, 4§ 3) that a taximeter must be connected to an additive device manufactured on the basis of a valid STAFS 2022:2 certificate. RISE is an accredited certification body for certifying additive devices for taximeters according to STAFS 2022:2.

The purpose of a certificate for accessory devices to taximeters is to show that the product meets the requirements of Swedacs regulation STAFS 2022:2.

The manufacturer starts the process by submitting an application to RISE for the review of an accessory device to taximeter. A technical documentation is attached to the application.

An evaluation plan is drawn up by RISE in consultation with the manufacturer to determine which tests are required. The technical basis and the results of the tests are evaluated.

If RISE assesses that the additive device meets the requirements, a certificate will be issued. The certificates are valid for ten years, provided that the conditions of the SPCR 179 certification rule are followed.

A first contact with Certification at RISE should be made as early as possible when a product is to be certified.

RISE certification rule SPCR 179

With our extensive expertise and advanced testing facilities, we ensure that your vehicle meets the safety requirements needed to be ready for the market, according to UNECE R155/R156 and the standards ISO/SAE 21434 and ISO 24089. We assist you with consulting, testing and certification.

UNECE R155 and R156 are two important regulations aimed at improving cybersecurity and the management of software updates in vehicles.

UNECE R155 focuses on protecting vehicles against cyberattacks by requiring vehicle manufacturers to implement robust cybersecurity measures. The regulation came into effect in January 2021 and became mandatory for all new vehicles produced from July 2024.

UNECE R156 focuses on ensuring secure and reliable software updates for vehicles. This regulation also came into effect in January 2021 and follows the same timelines as R155, with mandatory application for all new vehicles since July 2024.

RISE is approved by the Swedish Transport Agency as a Technical service and perform testing according to the UNECE R155 and R156 regulations. A Technical service is an organisation that has been approved as a testing laboratory and registered in the EU and ECE to conduct tests in connection with type approvals.

The ISO/SAE 21434 standard is used to ensure cybersecurity requirements in electrical/electronic (E/E) systems intended to implement functionality in road vehicles. ISO/SAE 21434 sets overall requirements as well as requirements related to the different parts of the product development lifecycle. 

Examples of activities required include vulnerability analyses and risk assessments, as well as lifecycle-specific activities such as requirement management, testing, and static code analysis.

ISO 24089 is an international standard introduced in early 2023 that focuses on software updates for road vehicles. This standard specifies requirements and recommendations to ensure that software updates are carried out in a secure and reliable manner.

ISO 24089 

The Certification of Production Process regarding Formaldehyde Emissions and REACH supports production processes for composite wood products. It aims to demonstrate that the manufacturer has the capacity to control the level of formaldehyde emissions from products produced in the certified production process.

The REACH regulation, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 - Registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH), is a European Union regulation aimed at improving the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals. Regarding formaldehyde emissions is the requirement that this shall be under 0.05 ppm.

The certification rule "SPCR 020, Certification rule for certification of production process regarding formaldehyde emissions and "REACH" requirements" by RISE Certifications assists manufacturers in meeting the requirements of the REACH regulation. Additionally, it provides an independent third-party statement confirming that the production processes and the manufacturer have the capability to control formaldehyde emissions and produce products with emissions below the specified limits.

SPCR 020 applies to production processes where composite wood products such as plywood, oriented strand board, particle board, fiberboard laminated veneer lumber, glulam and other glued timber products are produced.

SPCR 020 not only helps manufacturers fulfill regulatory requirements but also enhances their credibility and commitment to environmental and human health protection.

RISE performs all test in its own test labs and has a long experience in the field of testing and certification of wood products in general and regarding formaldehyde emissions. RISE is also a third-party certifier and can certify according to U.S. EPA TSCA Title VI Regulation for wood products. Through this, we can coordinate both audits, testing and certification to offer a comprehensive solution for both REACH and U.S requirements.

It can be difficult to determine whether a security product truly provides the level of protection against theft and burglary that it promises. A lack of uniform requirements and independent verification creates uncertainty for specifiers, procurement professionals, insurance companies, and end customers.

With an SSF‑certified product, stakeholders in the market get a clear, reliable, and comparable documentation for specification, procurement, and the selection of security solutions. The certification builds trust, simplifies decision‑making, and contributes to a high and consistent level of security over time.

RISE certification rule SPCR 177 – Certification rules for Standards issued by the Swedish Theft Prevention Association (SSF) covers SSF standards and certification requirements for many different types of products within the security sector. For a list of the products we can certify under SPCR 177, see the FAQ below.

Certification means that the product's properties are verified by an independent party according to SPCR 177, with a customised evaluation plan. RISE offers certification, testing and auditing for all SSF standards.

RISE is an SSF‑approved certification body. RISE can perform testing of products covered by SPCR 177 in its own laboratories. This includes, among other things, mechanical, electronic, environmental, and cybersecurity‑related properties, as well as reliability and other relevant characteristics.

RISE has a cooperation agreement with Finans Norge Forsikringsdrift (FNF). This means that RISE meets FNF’s requirements for product certification within theft protection, burglary protection, and security. As a result, certificates issued by RISE are accepted on the Norwegian market. The certificates are registered with FNF and listed via FG Skadeteknikk, making them valid and officially recognized in Norway.

The Universal Design standard helps organisations design products, services or environments so that as many people as possible can use them, regardless of their disability
