Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE)

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE) Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

The VFE test determines how well a given material filters virus-containing droplets of about 3 microns in size.

Purpose/Benefit:

The “Viral filtration efficiency” (VFE) test is a modification of the SS-EN 14683 standard, which uses the bacteriophage ΦX174 as the challenge organism.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

A material with filtration properties is clamped between a six-stage cascade impactor and an aerosol chamber. An aerosol of bacteriophage ΦX174 is introduced into the aerosol chamber and drawn through the filter material and the impactor under vacuum. The VFE of the tested material is given by the number of plaque forming units passing through the material expressed as a percentage of the number of plaque forming units present in the challenge aerosol. A higher VFE means that the material has higher effectivity to function as a barrier against viruses.

The test is done in a BSL-2 laboratory and can be performed with other types of bacteriophages on request.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

The test results and conclusions are presented in a written report.

Evaluation of membranes in hydrogen fuel cells

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Testing of membranes for fuel cells Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

The lifespan of fuel cells today is often determined by the lifespan of the membranes. We can help evaluate and compare the lifetime of different membrane materials in fuel cells.

Purpose/Benefit:

We can help evaluate and compare the life of membranes in fuel cells. The membranes are made of polymeric materials and are therefore affected by, among other things, of moisture content and temperature in combination with mechanical loads that occur in the fuel cell during operation. The membranes are thin, therefore equipment with high resolution and precision is needed.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The method we use is DMA-based, Dynamical Mechanical Analyze. The membranes are exposed to both temperature, moisture and mechanical load, this gives a quick response to differences in the properties of different membranes. Doing this in a fuel cell would be significantly more time consuming.

This requires accessible, safe, and reliable charging infrastructure with charging stations and charge points. We have extensive expertise in testing and certification and can assist you with all existing and upcoming standards.

Purpose/Benefit:

What can we do for you?

We offer a broad range of services for testing and certification of charging stations and other charging infrastructure. With our collective expertise in electrical safety, environmental durability, EMC, radio, electrical measurement, cybersecurity, and functional safety, we help you ensure that your products meet existing and upcoming standards and other safety and quality requirements.

We advise you on how requirements should be applied and how to prepare your operations and products for future regulations in areas such as electrical measurement and cybersecurity, so you can stay ahead. Naturally, our solutions are flexible to suit your specific needs.

Evaluation of cybersecurity and functional safety

RISE conducts accredited testing and evaluation of cybersecurity for charging stations and public charging points.

Cybersecurity testing is performed according to relevant standards, such as:

  • ETSI 303645
  • SS-EN IEC 62443-4-2
  • EN 18031-1, -2, -3

We also offer penetration testing of charging stations, where an ethical hacker attempts to breach the system and, based on identified vulnerabilities, produces a report.

For functional safety, we perform accredited evaluations and risk analyses according to IEC 61508.

Ripple-load test in hydrogen environment

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Ripple-load test in hydrogen environment Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Metallic materials exposed to hydrogen can exhibit degradation of their mechanical properties during their service life due to hydrogen embrittlement. Ripple-load test (RLT) together with slow strain rate testing (SSRT) and constant load testing are mechanical tests meant to assess the materials resistance to cracking in different environments.

Purpose/Benefit:

Assessing metallic materials suitability to hydrogen service can be a difficult task as the effects of hydrogen can take long time to be visible. We offer different testing methods to assess the suitability and compatibility of materials exposed to hydrogen, which can support an adequate materials selection.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

Ripple-load test (sometimes referred to as rippled strain rate testing, RSRT) is a modified slow strain rate testing to assess hydrogen assisted cracking by applying tensile load cycles. We offer RLT under high pressure hydrogen gas (up to 120 bar) as a solution to assess susceptibility of metallic materials to hydrogen assisted cracking.
