Purpose

We offer autoclave exposures in high pressure hydrogen gas environment. The purpose of the test is to evaluate materials behaviour by exposing specimens to pressurised hydrogen whilst either under constant strain (for example U-bend, 4-point bend, C-ring and spring-loaded type of testing), or by delayed mechanical testing after the exposure.

Method

High pressure hydrogen autoclave static exposures up to 200 bar.

Hydrogen embrittlement – Slow strain rate testing

Metallic materials exposed to a hydrogen atmosphere can exhibit degradation of their mechanical properties during their service life due to hydrogen embrittlement. Slow Strain Rate Testing (SSRT) in hydrogen atmosphere is a mechanical testing method that evaluates loss of ductility in metallic materials caused by hydrogen embrittlement.

Hydrogen embrittlement is a pervasive and dangerous issue for many types of materials, and it is especially (but not exclusively) affecting high strength steels. The determination of the susceptibility of materials to delayed fracture in the actual service environment is necessary to an appropriate materials selection.

Ripple-load test in hydrogen environment

Metallic materials exposed to hydrogen can exhibit degradation of their mechanical properties during their service life due to hydrogen embrittlement. Ripple-load test (RLT) together with slow strain rate testing (SSRT) and constant load testing are mechanical tests meant to assess the materials resistance to cracking in different environments.
