Nordic Wildberry Conference 2023

– This is a new, unique opportunity to come together, share ideas, experiences and knowledge about the wild berry market, its opportunities, solutions and challenges, says Anna-Karin Karlsson, project leader within FINEST, a national center led by RISE with the aim of creating the conditions for innovations that lead to an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable food sector. This conference offers deeper insights into, for example, the current situation, health and innovation research, social sustainability and the migrant workers situation related to the wild berry market. 

As a conference participant you will get the chance to listen to and experience both engaging Nordic speakers and panel discussions with representants from research institutes, universities, public sector, food trade and other berry business. The conference mainly focuses on Nordic berries, but also on perspectives of the global market and cultivated berries as a competitive factor – everything from the latest research to opportunities and challenges related to the berry market and products. 

Today, the forest berry value chain is long and international. Local berry picking and processing have almost disappeared and have instead been replaced by foreign berry pickers in collaboration with large wholesalers. There is a national market for forest berries, but to get this value chain to develop further we need to tackle a series of challenges. 

Nordic Wildberry Conference is an arrangement between RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, the County of Västerbotten, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University and Umeå municipality. The national center of FINEST is financed by Formas and the Fairchain-project is financed by The European Union.
