Innovation support for a sustainable textile value chain
The textile industry faces growing pressure to meet strict sustainability standards, navigate complex regulations, and embrace circular solutions, whilst remaining profitable. How can new, sustainable raw materials be integrated into textile production? Which design strategies improve recyclability and extend product lifecycles? Discover how we can help you drive sustainable textile innovation.
End-to-end support for textile innovation
RISE offers innovation support to help turn ideas into sustainable textile products. With expert knowledge, advanced testing and demonstration facilities, and robust technical infrastructure, we support companies across the textile value chain – from strategic guidance and design, to material selection, prototyping, testing, certification, and recycling – all within RISE.
Stay ahead of regulations
As a member of the European Technology Platform (ETP) and participant in EU projects like CIRPASS and CISUTAC, we help shape textile policies such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
This ensures our innovation services meet both current and future demands. Partnering with us gives you a head start through early regulatory insight, practical compliance support, and strategic guidance to turn change into business advantage.

Crafting a strategy
From identifying key challenges and setting measurable goals to creating actionable roadmaps, we ensure your sustainability efforts are structured and business-driven. Tools like Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are integrated into the early strategy process to support data-driven decisions, strengthen transparency, and build trust.
Design and material selection for circular textiles
A product’s circular potential is determined already in the design phase. Challenges include complex fibre blends, harmful additives, and designs that hinder reuse or recycling.
We provide expert guidance in sustainable material choices and circular design – balancing performance, environmental impact, and business value. We also support pilot development to test new circular models.
Textile fibre & Material development
Seeking to replace fossil-based fibres with sustainable, bio-based, or recycled alternatives without sacrificing quality? Interested in reducing hazardous chemicals in production or exploring smart functionalities for textiles?
We offer tailored development services to test and develop fibres and production processes for new textile materials, focusing on sustainability, functionality, and resource efficiency. Our expertise, advanced equipment, and material analyses cover everything from raw materials to finished products, with specialised knowledge in:
- Wet spinning: production of fibres from bio-based raw materials such as cellulose, alginate, chitosan, lignin, and proteins.
- Melt spinning: production of mono- and multi-component fibres, evaluation of spinnability of new bio-based or recycled materials, and development of high-performance specialty fibres.
- Nonwoven materials: development of customised textiles for specific functions and applications.
- Functional fibres: creation of fibres with advanced properties like electrical conductivity, temperature regulation, antibacterial effects with controlled release, and more.
Testing, Analysis & Certification of textile products
How do you ensure your products meet chemical management requirements, reduce microplastic emissions, and optimise functionalities like durability and wash resistance? And which certifications are necessary to remain competitive?
Comprehensive textile testing, analysis, and certification services with special expertise in OEKO-TEX® standards. Our ISO 17025-accredited lab offers over 400 chemical, mechanical, and physical tests on textiles and soft materials like nonwoven, foam, plastic, and leather. Beyond OEKO-TEX®, we ensure compliance with global standards and regulations throughout the textile lifecycle.
Textile recycling
How do you handle mixed materials? How do you reuse materials economically and sustainably? And how do you create secondary textile products without losing original properties? We assist you in addressing these challenges with expertise and technical infrastructure for textile recycling and prototype manufacturing of new products from leftover textiles and production waste. Our services include:
- Mechanical recycling: separation of fibres through shredding and prototype production for yarn and nonwoven materials.
- Thermomechanical recycling: pre-treatment of secondary raw materials and spinning of thermoplastic fibres (e.g., polyester) into new materials, with process optimisation for improved functionality.
- Chemical recycling: conversion of production waste and mixed consumer waste into recycled polymers and chemicals.

Why choose us?
Ensure regulatory compliance
Get support in interpreting, applying, and staying ahead of evolving textile regulations. Early adaptation to new legal requirements reduces the risk of delays, additional costs, and rework during market introduction.
Develop, test, and scale with confidence
Access test environments and expert support to develop, verify, and iterate your solutions under realistic conditions. Data-driven decision-making, proof of concept, and pilot demonstrations build trust among both internal and external stakeholders.
Save time and resources
By consolidating innovation support for the entire process, from fibre development to recycling, in one place, you reduce lead times, avoid duplication, and streamline the journey from research idea to finished solution.
Your ideas are safe with us
We protect your innovations with careful handling of intellectual property rights and clear non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
Tailored collaborations for textile innovation
RISE offers both specific services and long-term partnerships to support companies in transitioning to sustainable and circular textile products. Whether you need testing, certifications, analyses, or seek a more comprehensive collaboration throughout the development journey, we tailor our support to your needs. We also assist with research applications and joint projects, including help in formulating and applying for EU-funded research and innovation projects, as well as advice on applications within national programmes.
Textile transformation in practice
TreeToTextile – from idea to demonstration plant
Transitioning from a research idea to full-scale production requires time and interdisciplinary expertise. RISE has been an innovation partner to the Swedish startup TreeToTextile in developing a new cellulose-based fibre technology. The goal: to enable textile fibres with high sustainability performance at low cost—in line with the vision "better fibres for all."
RISE contributed with:
- initiation of the research project that laid the foundation for the technology
- pilot line for wet spinning and production of the first fibre samples
- proof of concept – fibres tested in garments like t-shirts and jackets
- ongoing evaluation of sustainability and efficiency parameters
- support in scaling up to a demonstration plant ahead of full production
