Laser Safety

RISE offers a laser safety course for companies. The course is aimed at laser safety managers or others who work with or near lasers. The course can be held either on-site at your premises or at RISE in Borås.

All operations that handle high-power lasers are obliged to comply with the laws and regulations that regulate such activities. For example, the company must have an appointed laser safety officer (AFS 2009:7). Our course in laser safety is suitable for people who have laser safety responsibilities or who otherwise work with or near high-power lasers.

The course provides documented competence for the use of lasers in a safe and legal manner.

Target Group
Laser safety officers, users/operators, service personnel of laser equipment, safety representatives, work environment inspectors, work environment engineers and supervisors.

Admission requirements
No prior knowledge is required. However, upper secondary school competence facilitates the understanding of laboratory work and calculations.

Content On the course
The course teaches participants to interpret and understand the applicable regulations and standards. This includes, for example, what different laser classes mean, how one is required to protect oneself and others, and how to choose the appropriate type of protection. The content can also be tailored to provide extra relevance to the company’s specific use of lasers.

Laboratory sessions can also be offered as part of a company-specific course, provided the course is held at RISE in Borås.
During the laboratory sessions, participants learn how to measure various properties of lasers. The labs also cover different types of lasers such as scanning lasers, fiber optic lasers, invisible laser radiation, etc., to demonstrate various types of risks that may occur.
