We will assist you in carrying out an independent review of your application for a sustainability opinion. The application can be for a new sustainability certificate, a sustainability certificate for a limited period or a review of a sustainability certificate.

 The sustainability criteria require that biofuels lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, that feedstocks fulfil soil criteria and that fuels are traceable to their origin. All installations that are part of the EU ETS and burn biofuels must have a sustainability certificate to demonstrate compliance with the criteria. In order for the emissions from the biofuel to be counted as biogenic, the sustainability certificate needs to be presented during the verification of the annual emissions reporting  

Once we receive your order, one of our experienced auditors will contact you. A risk-based plan is drawn up for the assignment and the audit is usually carried out remotely. We review your application to the Swedish Energy Agency, the control system, and the necessary documentation. The review is carried out in accordance with the Act (2010:598) on sustainability criteria for biofuels and biofuels, Ordinance (2011:1088) on sustainability criteria for biofuels and biofuels, Regulations on sustainability criteria for biofuels and biofuels (STEMFS 2021:7).

Once the independent review is complete, you will receive the report, the reviewer's opinion, and a certificate of the reviewer's independence and competence. This documentation must then be attached to your application to the Swedish Energy Agency.  

You need to have your control system ready, as well as a draft of the application to the Swedish Energy Agency.

The review identifies, for example, weaknesses and deficiencies that may make it difficult to achieve good moisture safety and the requirements of building regulations. The review may also result in a favorable assessment or in initial guidance for improvement and development. In complex cases, suggestions for deeper analysis are provided.

The review is based on our expert knowledge and practical and theoretical experience of building structures, solutions, materials and the indoor environment. If there is a lack of documentation, weaknesses or deficiencies, we usually provide guidance and point out opportunities. We often recommend this type of review before or in combination with moisture calculation. This type of review can also be useful for type approval and certification.

Many traditional constructions do not meet the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's building regulations. This is partly because the building regulations have been amended and tightened over the past 15 years, and partly because there is more knowledge about defects and faults that have arisen. In addition, requirements for energy conservation have led to increased insulation, which means that traditional structures have become more exposed to harmful moisture conditions.

The service does not replace moisture safety design or type approval/certification but can be useful for these. 

The review is reported in a written statement together with any appendices. The work is based on expert knowledge, experience and the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's building regulations. In cases where it is justified and there are relevant references, research etc, reference is made.

It is often an advantage if drawings, description and documentation of designs, solutions, material descriptions and product data are provided.

The review is delivered in a RISE Statement. The statement is signed by the performer and reviewer. 

The delivery time is normally relatively short, within 2-3 working weeks, especially if the assignment is for one working day. In the case of several days' work, more time may be needed. 

We apply running billing with the current hourly rate as it is often difficult to estimate what emerges. Target price with reconciliation or fixed price is also possible. 

We need to see all the documentation to be reviewed before the start of the assignment in order to guarantee the delivery time.

The order can be placed verbally or in writing, for example by e-mail, including invoicing details and organization number. We will then send you an order confirmation.

Moisture calculation is a method to clarify relatively quickly whether a construction has theoretical conditions to function well. The result of a moisture calculation is often evaluated with mould simulation. A moisture calculation is relatively resource-efficient compared to other methods such as field measurement or laboratory testing.

The constructions used and built must have known properties and functions. Having a moisture and mould simulation performed is an essential part of the theoretical basis needed to demonstrate and verify moisture safety. Calculations can provide a basis for improvements or for screening out poor designs early in the design process.

It is only in the last 15 years that realistic and at the same time user-friendly calculation programs have been available. This means that today's design of structures can contain a more engineering basis. In the past, it was common to use stationary calculations, which could not give very realistic results. 

Today, there are user-friendly calculation programs that can take into account most, but sometimes not all, which is why a deeper understanding of building physics, relevant assumptions of parameters and practical experience of constructions are often required. 

We use the hygrothermal calculation program WUFI (1D or 2D) together with one or more mould models such as WUFI-Bio or the MRD model.

In order to make the calculation as realistic as possible, a detailed description/drawing of the construction or design is needed, and preferably the intended location of the building and type of activity. It is usually an advantage if the maximum permitted moisture condition is available for the constituent products.

We often recommend or apply parametric studies, i.e. taking into account several different conditions, as for example the execution of construction usually varies.

The calculation is presented in a calculation report with result diagrams, used parameters and assumptions etc. The result is commented and assessed based on both simulation results and practical experience. 

For example, the delivery time for a one-dimensional calculation is 2-3 weeks and for a two-dimensional calculation slightly longer.

A one-dimensional calculation with report usually requires 10-15 hours.  Two-dimensional calculation often requires double the working time depending on its complexity and number of materials etc.

Drawings, material data and prerequisites need to be available or can be assumed before calculation.

Depending on the purpose of the calculation, the calculation may need to be performed according to EN 15026. There is also a Swedish guide for calculations “RäknaF”.

By letting RISE, as an independent third party, verify and HI-label your premises, you increase the credibility of your sustainability work. Verification of Sustainable Interior is based on the international standards ISO/IEC 17029:2019 and ISO 14024:2018.

RISE verifies how your company follows and complies with the criteria in Sustainable Interior. A review of documents and interviews with employees are carried out on site at the premises, in order to be able to assess whether the company fulfils the requirement criteria of the Sustainable Interior Criteria Document version 1.0. The criteria have been developed in a project in collaboration with various actors with research as a basis and you can freely access the criteria document, which is published publicly on the DiVA portal and at Hållbar Interiör. When the verification is completed and approved, RISE issues a verification statement and an HI label.

After successful completion of the verification, your company will receive a verification statement and an HI label, showing that the interior of your premises fulfils the requirement criteria of Sustainable Interior.

Concrete is a durable material that can fulfill its function significantly longer than 50 years. Structural parts contributing to approx. 60% of the total carbon dioxide emissions from new construction can be reused. RISE offers quality assurance of concrete elements for reuse by creating a technical basis for the decision on reuse.

The Swedish National Board of. Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) is in the process of introducing limit values ​​for the climate impact of new construction. Approx. 60% of climate emissions in a new house come from the structural frame. At the same time, the construction industry is responsible for the largest waste stream after the mining industry in Sweden with approx. 1.4 tonnes of waste/person/year. Part of the solution can be the reuse of structural elements. There is a high potential in reusing concrete structures that are characterized with long life and durability. We at RISE have many years of experience with condition assessment and quality assurance of concrete structures for reuse from a number of research projects (Återhus) and commercial assignments (e.g. IKEA Kållered or Housing Authority's Karlskrona office).

RISE has developed a methodology for quality assurance of concrete elements for reuse that consists of five steps:

• Analysis of existing documentation (drawings, manufacturing documentation, etc.)
• Site visit with visual inspection and verification of documentation.
• Non-destructive testing (testing with GPR, Schmidt-hammer, corrosion measurments, etc.) - can also be carried out on buildings in operation
• Sampling of drill cores and reinforcement for lab testing to verify results from NDT investigations.
• Analysis of results and reporting. Can be completed with service-life calculations for use in a new house.

Optional large-scale testing can be ordered to verify performance as elements.

The method is verified in a number of real projects. RISE is currently working in the standardization committee SIS TK191 "Precast concrete products" to publish a standard for the reuse of precast concrete based on that method.

RISE can also support in discussions with constructors, property owners and municipalities to explain the methodology in relation to Building Regulations and the Housing Authority's guidelines.

The majority of medical devices used today contain software in some form. This in turn places various requirements on the software, regulated in standard IEC 62304. RISE can assist in evaluating that the requirements of this standard are met. 

IEC 62304 contains processes, activities and tasks that together create a common framework, necessary for medical device software to maintain an acceptable quality throughout the life cycle of the medical device.

The standard is relevant to the development and maintenance of medical software when the software itself is a medical device or when the software is an embedded or integral part of the final medical device.

This standard does not cover validation and final release of the medical device, even if the medical device consists entirely of software.

RISE can assist in evaluating that the requirements of this standard are met. The reason for taking help from RISE can be both to get help from us to build up your internal competence in the area or that you have a customer who requires you to be able to show that an independent organisation has evaluated your product's software.

By taking help from RISE early in your product development, you avoid the risk of interpreting these frameworks incorrectly.

IEC 62304

RISE offers evaluation of household appliances according to the IEC 60335-1 standard with Annex R (software evaluation of programmable electronic circuits) and Annex U (appliances intended for remote communication through public networks) as specialties.

All companies selling products on the European market must be able to demonstrate that the products comply with the applicable EU directives. As an importer or manufacturer of household and commercial products, you must be able to demonstrate that the product meets the EU requirements of the LVD and the Machinery Directive. Home and household products that comply with standard EN 60335-1 or applicable product standard (part 2) are presumed to meet the requirements of the directives.

Annex R of the standard concerns programmable electrical circuits and that its software detects any safety-critical faults and that they are dealt with in the best possible way or at best avoided altogether. Both for safety-related data and safety-related segments of software.

Annex U of the standard concerns measures that can be taken to prevent unauthorized access and the effects of transmission errors when using remote communication through public networks.

Through our deep knowledge of the standard and with these two parts in particular consideration, we are convinced that we can help the customer to bring a product to the market that is secure both from a functional and cybersecurity perspective.

Accessibility means that all users, with or without disabilities, should be able to access and easily use what you are developing. Without thoughtful design choices, there is a risk of inadvertently excluding people from being able to use a product or service. We help you create accessible design for an inclusive and socially sustainable society. 

Using the variation of different people's abilities as a starting point, accessibility helps to include as many users as possible. There are currently EU requirements stating that public authorities' websites, apps and documents must be accessible. Additionally, by 2025 all EU countries must also have legislated that certain products and services within the private sector must be accessible. Through accessibility, competitive products and services are created that are easy to use for all user groups. 

We continuously work to create accessible physical and digital environments, products and services. An essential aspect of the work is to include the needs of the user. We do this, among other ways, through interviews, user tests, expert evaluations and workshops, some of which we conduct in the high-tech UX lab. Our methods are well-tested and developed to create a deep understanding of users and their needs. 

We also follow principles for universal design to create environments, products and services that as many people as possible can access and use. Furthermore, we adhere to standards, such as the European standard for digital accessibility, EN 301 549, the Swedish DOS law and WCAG 2.1 which describe guidelines for creating accessible digital products. We base our expert evaluations on these.
