Thermal analysis of composite materials - DSC

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Thermal analysis of composite materials - DSC Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

DSC – Differential Scanning Calorimetry is a very useful thermal analysis method. It is commonly used in the development and characterization of various composite materials.

Purpose/Benefit:

DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) is a thermal analysis method for obtaining, among other things, degree of cure, glass transition temperature (Tg) and / or melting point (Tm) of the composite material.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The method is based on a sample being heated at constant speed together with a reference sample in separate ovens for sample and reference. The energy supply required for the temperature difference between the samples to be zero is recorded.

For example, if the sample cures at linear heating, less energy is required during the curing process for the reference sample to maintain the same temperature as the sample. This difference corresponding to the heat released by the curing reaction is recorded in a so-called thermogram. After the curing process, a controlled cooling of the sample can be done. To determine the Tg of the polymer, the sample is heated again.

Application areas:

  • Determination of Tg and Tm
  • Determination of degree of cure
  • Determination of crystallinity

Determination of the metals corrosivity category by measuring the corrosion rate of different metals after 1year of expo

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Determination of the metals corrosivity in different environments Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

When choosing metallic materials for structures that will be exposed to an aggressive environment, it is important to take into account the corrosion resistance of the metals in the current environment so that the design gets the longest possible life at the lowest total cost. The total cost of construction life includes investment costs, maintenance costs, traffic costs and social costs.
When choosing metallic materials, the investment cost is usually in focus as one wants as low cost as possible, but most often one forgets the other costs that can increase sharply due to a wrong choice of material. A poor choice of materials can mean high maintenance costs and this can also mean that tunnels, bridges, roads, railways may have to close, leading to very high traffic costs.

Purpose/Benefit:

Determine the corrosivity categories of different metals by field exposure of test panels in different aggressive environments in order to make the right material choices so that the construction life can be as long as possible at the lowest total cost.

This service can be used to generate important information about the corrosion resistance of various metallic materials that will be exposed to an aggressive environment. This information can be used in, for example, procurement when selecting metallic materials with a long service life and a low total cost.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

Special test panels are developed to be exposed in the current environment. After about one year of exposure, the corrosion rate of the test panels is evaluated according to the standard SS-EN 9226: 2012 - Corrosion of metals and alloys - Atmospheric corrosivity - Determination of the corrosion rate of standard tests for evaluation of corrosivity.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

After completion of field exposure, the corrosion rate and the corrosivity category for the metallic materials investigated will recorded in a report.

3D measurement with scanning

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): 3D measurement with scanning Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

From digital model to finished product, or vice versa. Optical 3D measurement is often used when analyzing and measuring an existing product or process, or when developing a new product. Measurement technology is contact-free and provides measurement results with extremely high accuracy.

Purpose/Benefit:

Optical 3D measurement and scanning

Optical 3D measurement is often used to transfer shape data from a physical detail to a digital model or vice versa, from digital model to product. The digital model's data can, for example, be sent to an NC milling machine for machining. We can compare models to control deviations, it can be about differences between sheet and tool or between tool and CAD model.

Measurement process

RISE has equipment for optical 3D measurement that provides fast measurement results when evaluating manufactured or shaped parts.

We perform optical 3D scanning and by adapting lenses in relation to objects, we achieve higher density between the measuring points and increase the degree of fineness. This is needed when evaluating smaller measurement objects or geometrically complicated parts of a detail. If the object is larger than the measurement area, it can still be measured - then you combine several measurements together.

Shut-off valves for district heating networks

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Valves Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Shut-off valves for district heating networks are tested for tightness, strength and opening and closing torque.

Purpose/Benefit:

To test long-term properties in the form of tightness and manoeuvrability, cycling tests are conducted with opening and closing. Testing in accordance with European standard EN 488: 2019 may form the basis for certification according to the Euroheat & Power certification program EHP 003. RISE is a test institute and certification body according to EHP 003 approved by Euroheat & Power.

Valves for other applications in the industry can also be tested in a similar way.

Certification takes place according to the European industry standard EHP 003, which is based on testing according to the European standard EN 488: 2019. A certified valve is therefore attractive in the entire European market.

Valves up to a size of DN 1000 can be tested, which means that valves up to DN 2000 can be certified according to EHP 003.

A tested and certified valve proves quality and that the valve can maintain high performance for a long time.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

Cycling and manoeuvring test according to EN 488: 2019. The test method EN 488: 2019 is intended for stretch limit valves which may be subjected to high axial expansion forces from connecting district heating systems. The valve is operated under load and the opening and closing torque and the tightness after the test are checked. The testing is supplemented by continuous checks at the manufacturer, which ensures that the valves produced are of the same quality as the specimens tested. An EHP 003 certificate is valid for 6 years. In the test rig we can pressurize the whole system up to 24 bar. For pressure testing of only the valve, we can use other equipment and reach up to 40 bar. We measure torque on the valve up to 15000 Nm. The equipment can apply up to 20 MN of axial power, and up to 8 MN in tension. There are also opportunities to test four-point bending moments.

Density test according to EN 12266-1 from Rate A (no measurable leakage) to Rate G (2.0 * DN mm3 / s).

Certification according to Euroheat & Power's certification program EHP 003.

The work include both accredited and non-accredited testing methods. The scope of accreditation is available upon request – please feel free to contact us for more information.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

Close contact with the customer how the test set-up should be carried. After evaluation of the results, a report is written. The report is reviewed and if the results meet the requirements, an EPH 003 certificate is written.

Delivery time:

EN ISO 12952 -Fire testing of bedding items

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): EN ISO 12952 -Fire testing of bedding items Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

EN ISO 12952-1:2010 - Textiles – Assessment of the ignitability of bedding items – Part 1: Ignition source: smouldering cigarette.

EN ISO 12952-2:2010 - Textiles – Assessment of the ignitability of bedding items – Part 2: Ignition source: match flame equivalent.

Purpose/Benefit:

The standard is used to assess the ignitability of bedding items when subjected to a smouldering cigarette and a match flame equivalent as ignition source.

These test methods only evaluates the ignitability of bedding products and does not evaluate the burning behavior of a specific item.

In Sweden, to be able to use bedding items in a high-risk health care environment, the bedding items must be able to resist ignition according to SS-EN ISO 12952-1 and SS-EN ISO 12952-2.

According to the standard for railway applications, EN 45545-2, bedding items are to be tested according to EN ISO 12952-2, ignition with a match flame equivalent.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The tests are performed in a test cabinet with a calibrated air flow. The test specimen is located on a substrate of mineral wool, on top of a steel rig. Ignition sources are applied on flat surfaces, quilts, edge tapes, underneath quilts, between sheets, etc.

During the cigarette test the bedding item is not allowed to smoulder or produce externally detectable amounts of smoke, heat or glowing after one hour from the beginning of the test.  It is also not allowed to have any occurrence of flames initiated by the smouldering cigarette.

The test assembly is subjected to a gas flame for 15 seconds. No flaming is allowed to continue for more than 120 seconds after the removal of the ignition source, and the specimen should not burn until it is consumed within the test duration. The bedding item should not smoulder or produce externally detectable amounts of smoke, heat or glowing after 15 minutes following the removal of the ignition source.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

After testing, a test report in Swedish or English is delivered with the results.

Assessment of the ignitability of bedding items according to SS-EN ISO 12952-1 and SS-EN ISO 12952-2

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): SS-EN ISO 12952 Fire test of bedding items Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

Fires can be caused by, for example, bed linens that catch fire through bed smoking. The flammability of bedding products is an important feature to consider when evaluating fire risks. The test is carried out where either a glowing cigarette or a match-like flame equivalent is used as a source of ignition. These two methods are useful for evaluating flammability for pillows, duvets, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, thin bed mattresses etc.

Purpose/Benefit:

The method aims to evaluate the flammability of bedding products.

The ability of bedding products to be easy ignited provides a basis for assessing its suitability for use in certain environments. Different requirements may apply in different types of environments. In hospital environments, for example, there are more stringent requirements if the product will be used in high-risk environments than if it will be used in normal-risk environments.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The method SS-EN ISO ISO 12952-1 is carried out by placing glowing cigarettes on, under and or between textile layers on the product. The cigarettes will burn out their full length and the sample material is evaluated based on whether or not ignition occurs. The test is performed after the test material has been washed 5 times.

The SS-EN ISO 12952-2 method is performed by placing a match flame equivalent on the product for 15 seconds. The test material is evaluated on the basis of if ignited or not. The test is performed after the test material has been washed 5 times.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):
