Classification of lasers and laser products in accordance with SS-EN 60825-1.

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Laser classification Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

We perform classifications of all types of lasers i accordance with SS-EN 60825-1.

Purpose/Benefit:

Classification of a laser or laser product in accordance with SS-EN 60825-1 involves characterizing the laser with regard to output power, wavelength, pulse etc. Based on those measurements the product is assigned a laser class. The laser class determines e.g. what warning labels the product should have. We are also able to measure the divergence of the laser in order to calculate the laser hazard distance.

In order for a product to be marketed it is required that the product is safe. SS-EN 60825-1 is one of the standards that laser products need to comply with in order to be handled safely.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The classification is performed in accorance with applicable parts of method 0374 which is based on IEC SS-EN 60825-1:2014.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):

The results are presented in a report in english with an accreditation mark. The report also gives instructions about how to label the product and which information needs to be available to the user in the manual.

RISE is also a CB Test Laboratory for IECEE and can upon request issue an IECEE-report for the test which can then be certified by IECEE through Intertek Semko.

Optical fiber sensors for machine monitoring

SensMachine
RISE phase-OTDR system

For the development of robust, rotating systems - the optical fiber sensors are very useful. Due to their immunity to electromagnetic interference, robustness in rough environments and their ability for rapid and relevant measurements, as well as the factor that the fibre can be embedded in other materials.

The project focused on developing an improved high sampling frequency fiber Bragg grating (FBG) system and a distributed optical fiber vibration sensor prototype to evaluate SKF bearings. SKFs costumers want reduced friction and machines that run faster, longer, cleaner and more safely. In this scenario, optical fiber sensors are a feasible option, due to their immunity to electromagnetic interference, robustness to harsh environments, broad bandwidth and embedding capabilities.

Thus, employing an optical fiber sensing solution to monitor bearings conditions enables to detect failures in rotating machines at early stage, increasing it is life spam and optimizing their maintenance process.

In this joint venture, Proximion, expert on design and manufacturing of advanced Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs), had the goal to develop a new fast interrogator to monitor bearing conditions. The task of RISE optical fiber sensors group was to develop a portable vibration sensor capable to measure SKF bearing vibrations in real time and distributed, using a single fiber, and prospect combining this technology with Proximion’s FBG.

Moreover, together with Proximion expertise, RISE was also also working on research and development of specialty fibers to better optimize this sensing solution. The first version of the system was already evaluated in an earlier field test in SKF facilities in June 2018 and, in this new project, an enhanced version was developed.
