The aim of the project is to increase the ability of municipalities and regions to ensure a sustainable and robust food supply for public meals, even in times of disruption. The project is funded through the Impact Innovation programme SustainGov – an initiative by the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova.
The project will develop new ways of working and new forms of collaboration throughout the value chain, from farm to table, with the needs of the individual at the centre. The goal is to develop food procurement by establishing multi-channel supply arrangements to increase redundancy, robustness, and resilience in the food system.
The project will develop and test scalable models for crisis-resilient procurement. Expected results are new ways of working across organisational boundaries, such as new forms of contracts, procurement models, risk analyses, guiding principles, and a nationally scalable framework. The result will be a more sustainable, resilient, and robust public meal service. Small and medium-sized municipalities will contribute to increased preparedness by ensuring equal access to healthy meals, including during major crises.
Through a systems perspective, policy labs, and practical prototyping, the project addresses challenges such as fragmented organisations, procurement constraints, and weak links between actors in the value chain. The implementation will be based on a shared understanding of current challenges and potential future crisis scenarios.
