Policy levers for a redesigned economy: a WCEF2026 Accelerator session

This session is built on 10+ years of research on how to develop and scale circular business models - resulting in the insight that these models cannot scale within our current economic system. We have identified 26 levers for transformative change, necessary to to scale a real circular economy.

Our current economic system operates based on a fundamental logic of short-term profit maximization that drives unsustainable behaviour and accelerates resource depletion and climate crisis.
This session is built on 10+ years of research on how to develop and scale circular business models - resulting in the insight that these models cannot scale within our current economic system. Through extensive stakeholder engagement with business leaders, finance professionals, policymakers, public sector and civil society, and with complements from literature, we have identified 26 levers for transformative change, necessary to to scale a real circular economy operating within planetary boundaries . These levers are organised into a comprehensive map consisting of four spheres - moving from indirect to more direct impact (or from ”think” to ”do”) - and two systemic dimensions: Operating within the current system and challenging the system.
Our research is based on finding in a Western-European/Swedish context, and we want to spread our findings as well as collect examples and perspectives from other parts of the world. We believe this is the road to inspire further research and action.

This event/webinar is an accelerator session at the World Circular Economy Forum 2026 (wcef2026.com). WCEF2026 is guided by the latest scientific evidence on the most impactful circular solutions – with a tropical twist. Designed to facilitate targeted discussions that drive the implementation on the ground, the forum is free of charge, open to all online.

The session will be held in English.
