Mathmet 2025

Mathmet 2025 Conference

RISE and Chalmers University of Technology have the great pleasure to invite you to attend the Mathmet 2025 Conference, which will take place from 7 October to 9 October, 2025, in Gothenburg Sweden.

Mathmet 2025 is an event of the European Metrology Network (EMN) for Mathematics and Statistics to promote new analytical and computational approaches in measurement science. This edition is jointly organized by RISE and Chalmers.

Mathmet intends to provide a forum for applied mathematicians, statisticians, and metrologists to present and discuss contemporary methods and challenges in applications of mathematical models and statistical data analysis to measurement science.

Sessions on theoretical and applied science

Participants from Countries worldwide will network in sessions on theoretical and applied science, bringing together experts from related fields of knowledge, including uncertainty quantification, machine learning and artificial intelligence, sensor networks, medical and industrial imaging, environmental monitoring, atmospheric science and climatology.

Organizers very much welcome participants that bring applications in any area of measurement science through mathematical developments.

The venue will be the Chalmers Conference Centre, located on the Chalmers University campus, with convenient access from Göteborg Landvetter Airport, which offers direct flights to major European hubs.

Main topics

  • Measurement uncertainty
  • Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics
  • Trustworthy machine learning, including uncertainty quantification
  • Statistical calibration and regression problems
  • Modeling and inverse problems
  • Uncertainty quantification for computationally expensive model
  • Statistical methods for interlaboratory comparisons and conformity assessment
  • Virtual measurements and digital twins
  • Sensor networks
  • Digitalization in metrology
  • Data quality

Abstract submission

Abstract submission is open. Submit your abstract.

The abstract should provide a good indication of the topic and its relevance. A good abstract typically provides a paragraph or two on each of: context of the research, motivation, methodology, results (if any available) and conclusions. The abstract should be up to 1000 words maximum and entered as plain text in the online submission form. Please remember to include your affiliation!

Special Session Proposals

Special sessions on specific Mathmet-related project applications can be proposed: Joint Research Projects (JRPs) consortia are free to get in contact with the Organizers and provide their suggestions.

Publication Information

Selected contributions to the conference will have the opportunity to be published in the journal Metrologia after a peer review process.

In memory of Clemens Elster

The Conference is dedicated to the memory of our outstanding colleague and highly respected and beloved friend Clemens Elster. A "Best presentation award" will be given in his name to the most relevant work presented at the Conference.

Clemens worked in the fields of applied mathematics and statistics and their applications in metrology after he joined PTB in 1994. He led the PTB working group on "Data analysis and measurement uncertainty" from 2004 to 2025. His wide expertise led to many successful cooperations with colleagues all over PTB, as well as many international collaborations on fundamental issues of uncertainty evaluation and related applications. He was a member of the JCGM Working Group on the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (JCGM-WG1:GUM) for many years and a co-initiator of the MATHMET conference series in 2010 that served as a nucleus of the current EMN Mathmet. We will deeply miss his scientific contributions and the discussions with him as well as his personal support and advice. Our thoughts are with his family.
