At RISE, we offer not only standard FTIR set-ups but also advanced methods such as micro-FTIR imaging spectroscopy and micro-FTIR imaging spectroscopy for analysis of microplastics.

FTIR analysis is valuable for batch analysis to ensure consistent quality over time. It can be used to verify materials that do not behave as expected, helping confirm that the correct material has been supplied. Recycled material streams often require inspection to ensure proper sorting and that the plastic type is correct.

The TGA instrument measures weight change of a sample as a function of temperature.

DSC is mainly used for analysing plastics, polymer fibers and coatings. Determination of melt temperature (Tm), glass transition temperature (Tg), Oxidation Induction Temperature- or Time (OIT) are very common. OIT is an indirect measure of the ability of a material to resist degradation by oxidation in air. Also curing reaction may be analysed.

RISE performs tests on almost all types of hoses for many purposes, for example type testing and certification of multi-coiled and form-stable fire hoses for fire posts. Plastic fuel tanks are now days the most common fuel tank model within the automotive industry. One of the major benefits compared to metal fuel tanks is the almost unrestricted freedom of shape. However, there are various specific regulations for plastic fuel tanks concerning fire resistance, impact strength, permeability etc. with which they must comply.

RISE regularly conducts fire tests on plastic fuel tanks for vehicles. The fire tests are carried out in our large fire test hall in accordance with UN Regulation 34 annex 5, clause 5. 

Examples of organic substances are additives such as dyes, biocides, surfactants, preservatives, consistency sensors, flame retardants (in, for example, plastics and electronics), plasticizers (phthalates) or other additives in plastics and rubber.

Cut-out samples can be collected from equipment made from fiberglass reinforced plastic. Examples of such equipment can be scrubbers, chimneys and tanks from the chemical industry, flue-gas cleaning, etc. The more background information available on the current equipment, the more information the analysis of the samples will provide.

When something fails, it may be important to know the cause of the failure in order to avoid the same thing again in the future.

Equipment inspections are important in order to be able to plan for future maintenance and investments. We have experience of inspecting stacks in glass fibre reinforced plastics, tanks and pipelines in various plastic materials, scrubbers and other plastic process equipment, in materials like PE, PP, PVC and glass fiber reinforced plastics.

The mechanical properties of a material are very important to know in order to be able to design a product that will last the loads for a specific application. Creep; strain during constant load, occurs to a greater or lesser extent in all materials.

The Charpy-V method tests the impact strength of a material by dropping a pendulum on a test rod of the material. It is also possible to determine whether the fracture was brittle or ductile by examining the fracture surface.
