WayWiseR: Future Safe and Secure Autonomous Systems

The Dependable and Autonomous Systems research group is dedicated to advanced research and development in the field of autonomous systems. Our expertise spans a wide range of applications, including autonomous vehicles, machines and drones. Rapid Prototyping of Autonomous Systems

WayWiseR is a software platform for rapid prototyping based on ROS 2 (Robot Operating System). ROS 2 facilitates the development of complex robotic systems through its modular structure and has already become a key technology across numerous industries, such as automotive systems, industrial robotics, medical and personal robotics, as well as drones.

WayWiseR enables the validation of vehicle functions in both simulations and real-world testing. The platform includes support for advanced computer vision, mapping and autonomous functionality. WayWiseR has been developed within our research projects and thus serves as a showcase of our ability to develop methods for testing, verifying and validating autonomous systems.

Use Cases

WayWiseR has been instrumental in several use cases across various domains. Our expertise has been utilised to address complex challenges surrounding autonomous systems, including:

  1. Drones and autonomous forestry machines: Within the AGRARSENSE EU project, our research efforts focused on collaborative situational awareness in dynamic forest environments. WayWiseR was used to develop a prototype for safety-critical person detection and automated emergency braking. The work aimed to enable safer interaction between drones, autonomous machines and human operators. Link to demo video
  2. Autonomous reversing function for trucks: In the SUNRISE EU project, which focused on road vehicles, WayWiseR was used to develop a truck prototype capable of autonomous reversing. Link to demo video
