Jost Ruwoldt har blant annet bakgrunn i voks og asfaltener i oljeproduksjon, kolloidvitenskap, biokonversion, kjemikalier fra biomasse, og relaterte teknologier.
Han har en Ph.D. i kjemisk prosessteknologi fra NTNU (2018). Avhandlingen handlet om voks, voksinhibisjon, og asfaltener i oljeproduksjon: "Inhibitor-Wax Interactions and Wax Crystallization: New Experimental Approaches and Techniques". Før dette studerte han på Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) og er uteksaminert med en B.Sc. i General Engineering Science (2013) og en M.Sc. i Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering (2015). Masteroppgaven hans handlet om omdannelse av kull fra hydrothermal karbonisering av biomasse til flytende drivstoff og andre kjemikalier.
