The NETSOLDER project unites RISE, Hamamatsu Photonics, and DPP to advance sustainable, low-carbon electronics manufacturing by exploring photonics-based soldering techniques that reduce energy use and increase production efficiency.
This feasibility study explores the development and optimization of laser-based photonic soldering as a resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable method for electronic interconnections. Unlike conventional heating, photonic soldering provides highly localized, ultra-fast heating in the millisecond range, enabling reliable processing of temperature-sensitive substrates while reducing energy consumption, increasing soldering speed, and shortening assembly set-up times. This study will assess the feasibility and industrial potential of this technology, address these gaps and pave the way for sustainable electronics manufacturing aligned with the transition to net zero emissions.
